Trading Up for Mendoza is Not Impossible! Now is the Time!

I’d trade 3 first-round picks for Mendoza. No hesitation. For everyone pointing to 2027 as the “better QB class,” I'll challenge you to name one QB in that class thats even close to Mendoza level. Its considered a strong class because its deep, not because its has a blue-chip franchise cornerstone at the top (gtfo if you think Manning is a blue chipper). Mendoza is the best QB prospect to come out since Burrow. When you have a shot at a legitimate franchise guy, you dont wait around hoping a future class might produce one. That being said, theres zero chance the Raiders trade out of the 1st pick, even for 3 first-round picks.
Mendoza is hands down the most overrated QB prospect I can remember this century. Don’t get me wrong, the class is weak and he is the best QB so he will go #1. However, he is no where near as NFL ready as a guy like Burrow. People give him way too much of the credit for playing on the best coached team in college football.

Look at his stats when he was challenged by a defense (the first Oregon, Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State and Miami) and you see him for what he is; a game manager. Y’all will hate on Tua for “only throwing to his first read” while ignoring the fact Indiana ran a QB friendly system that got the ball to the first or second read 95% of passes.

If we had the #1 pick I’d probably trade it, but I could also live with taking Mendoza. Giving up anything else to move up to take a QB who wouldn’t be the best in the 27 class seems like a good way to lose your job.

It's just a prediction. I'll be the very first to say, I'm wrong as much as anyone else. Anyone who swears that they're always (or almost always) right is the worst sort of fool.

Could we be better than I'm predicting? Of course, but a LOT of moves would almost have to be golden. Not just successful, but golden.
Far enough. It seemed to me, though, that you were trying to paint the worst scenario. Saying: "removing Tua, Hill, Chubb, Phillips, and many others..." First, Tua had a very down season compared to his previous standards. Nothing he did in 2025 couldn't be replicated by Ewers. Hill missed 75% of the season. Phillips was traded at about the halfway point and wasn't playing that well before that. His inability to finish the deal on sack attempts cost us the Chargers game. Many others? The only other cut so far of any significance has been Daniels. He of the three total snaps, and we later found out that he refused to come back late in the season. NWI? Terrible signing. No loss at all. If we replace Chubb in the draft, for example, add a starting WR to pair with Waddle, this team wouldn't be far from the 7-10 team of 2025.

Dulcich, Waller, Davis, Borum, Melifonwu, Douglas, Jones, etc... there are a LOT of veterans who likely won't return.. not great players per se, but a LOT of snaps that probably won't return. Any of them who accomplished anything for us will probably walk. Benito, Britt... Gay... the list goes on.

These guys allowed us to be mediocre, at least.

Could Ewers equal what Tua managed? Maybe. Could we find a way to replace Chubb's sacks? Maybe. Minkah's probably gone, so there's that. Brooks probably wants more money or a better situation.

...and then there's the brutal, BRUTAL schedule that we didn't face last year. So, tougher schedule with a weaker team.

Could all 5 of our draftees from the first two draft days immediately start, AND equal or surpass those who played last year? Maybe, but you know that's a real longshot.

I add all of this up, along with the fact that we just can't sign any FAs of merit due to our cap situation, and I just can't see more than a couple of wins.. and I'm usually accused of being an optimist.

I think Vegas assigned us an over/under of 4.5 wins, so it isn't just me.

I can assure you it's not possible. Don't be all over Mendoza. A lot of questions marks on the offense he runs. Mendoza has no pocket awareness if he snaps under center. He's a shotgun QB that runs awkwardly. We ain't doing nothing next year. Best to draft one in 2027 and costs nothing

I just double-checked... the two teams with the lowest over/unders currently are the Cardinals and us, both at 4.5.

Even the Raiders and Jets are at 5.5.

I'm not saying that we ought to burn it to the ground, only that being competitive is unlikely.

I really hoped we could bring Dulcich back. Is that unrealistic?

I can only assume you don't remember JaMarcus Russell or a few other folks who come to mind quickly.

Hopefully 2 wins maximum. I want the number 1 draft pick in 2027.
Teams don't play for number one draft pick so you can complain when your favorite player isn't chosen, damned the number one pick, the Dolphins need hard nosed players so the whole team is good not some hot shot rookie QB that still will need 3 years to produce.

If he’s the next great qb sure, just don’t play him for 3 years because no Oline and no receiver is great

Mendoza is being compared to Burrow or Luck as a college prospect. In that regard, he is grossly overrated. JaMarcus Russell wasn’t seen as a generational prospect; he was seen as the best QB in the 2007 draft because he had a huge arm. Most experts thought he could easily be a bust and he was.
