I see the Dolphin visit with Stanfords Trent Edwards may getting lost in the Quinn shuffle...
  • Stanford QB Trent Edwards had a personal interview with the Dolphins on April 5. He had dinner with Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller. On April 6, they watched videotape together at Stanford, followed by an hour's workout in which Edwards threw to San Jose State receiver James Jones. David Lofton, son of Hall of Famer James Lofton, participated in the drills as a defensive back. Four years ago, the two mosted highly-rated recruits coming out of high school were Vince Young and Edwards.
Many say he's this years version of Jay Cutler who played on a weak team with poor surrounding talent but showed toughness in the pocket and delivered the tough throws.

They say he is very smart, has great intangibles, can go through his progressions, has great feet, can make all the throws and is very accurate with a quick release. Apparently his injury concerns have more to do with the poor talent in protection than a break down of his body.

None other than Bill Walsh give Edwards a huge endorsement. Projected to be a much better pro than college player based on systems and surrounding talent.

Do you think if the Quinn deal doesn't happen... we'll look at Edwards with the 60th pick?
 
We definitely could, him or Stanton IMO would be a good fit for us. I like the guy.

He's also in great shape much like Quinn, he takes care of his body, which is very important. I dont like the lazy QB's, to me, if theyre lazy about working out and staying in shape, then they have a higher liklihood to being lazy in the film area as well.
 
I have liked Edwards from the get-go. This is a very large QB at 6'4"+/231 pounds. He is very athletic. Strong-armed. Intelligent. Very good at throwing on the run. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' but has had some injuries. Makes boneheaded throws from trying too hard. Could be a great pick-up, IMO. Behind Quinn or Russell, I say Miami has to jump all over him with a 2nd.
 
I prefer him to Stanton. We are clearly interested in him and although I would prefer to get Quinn, I can see Edwards running our offense very well. I'd even take him over Jamarcus Russell.
 
Does anyone have any clips of him? I've tried youtubing him nothing and a couple of the draft link sites that has videos. Didnt really follow stanford last year, Thanks in advance.

I was specticle of Edwards and was more for the Stanton guy because of his heart and toughness. But the more I read about Edwards and see on video, he looks good. He would not be ready to start day 1 of course. He requires a year or two of development. As for where we pick him, I think the second is a little too early. Him and Kolb should go in the 3rd. I think Troy Smith gets picked right after Edwards. I also hear Edwards has a real good arm.

That's exactly the problem, and the reason I don't think the Phins will get him. That's why I've go the Phins going with Smith at 71, but, you never know. Whatever happens, I'm hoping Mueller and Cam address the QB spot and find a legitimate starter.
