Tripp in mix for starting job

Moving players around depth charts, moving players around during practice...

This is coach speak... to the STARTING LBers to get their act together

If true - I wonder how far off Ellerbe is from a similar message.

This is great news. I'd love to come out with:

WLB McCain
MLB Tripp
SLB Misi
In nickel, Jenkins can come in and McCain and Misi can come out. In dime, Jenkins can be the only LB.
They may be out of position at times, but that unit has potential. We know what Wheeler and Ellerbe have got. The new guys can't be worse and may as well develop.

TRIPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I got flamed on here last week for suggesting Tripp start!

That was a good thread, WV. I think Tripp has a big and growing fan base.

Ellerbee is just as bad but because we outbid ourselves so much for him many don't want to admit he is that bad

You will never give it up...
Watch the Atl tape again and tell me Ellerbe was even close to playing at Wheelers level..
At least Ellerbe tries and take on blocks and makes tackles... Agree he should probably not be starting in our 4-3 but he is not the weak link

I dont think anybody dislikes tripp they just don't think a 5th rounder from montana can start as a rookie. Its possible but a big step up in competition. His agility drills were as good as anyone tested

Kiko Alonso worked out pretty well for Buffalo last year and Tripp is a bit like Alonso. Capable, versatile, athletic an not too small.

Sounds like McCain is further away from being a realistic starter but I hope he at least gets some snaps with the first unit. His positioning may not be there yet. But let's develop him! Philbin has not been good about getting young guys run and then we don't know what we have.

The Dolphins played Tripp at middle and outside linebacker in base and sub packages on Friday. Playing against both Atlanta’s second and third team units, Tripp graded as the team’s fourth-best player. He graded especially well in run defense and was solid in pass coverage.

“He had the most multiple roles of any player in the game and the game plan was to see if he could handle those responsibilities,” Duffner said. “The good news about it is that he didn’t back down from it. He’s a highly competitive guy and he did see reps against their second group. It didn’t appear like it’s too big for him right now and we’re going to continue to see his ability to make plays.”

Duffner said he also likes the development of undrafted rookie linebacker Chris McCain.

“He’s got real good athletic ability for a rookie and he’s got length,” Duffner said. “So far he’s distinguished himself with some flash making plays in practice. We need more consistency out of all our players, him being one of them. But he’s got some versatility that’s valuable for the team.”

Those people should think again.

Tripp was one of the best players in the draft. If he had played at say, an SEC school for example, he would have been a 2nd round pick at least, perhaps a 1st.

I was thinking about that comparison as well. Alonso seems really quick to me, but someone above posted that Tripp is agile too.

He is really smart and incredibly athletic. He can wind up handling the MLB duties on this team and in time he will develop into the captain of the defense.

Jordan Tripp also has great instincts and as a result will make huge impact plays.

The Dolphins found themselves a 5th round gem in Jordan Tripp. Book it.
