Butler made the same exact cross-sport comparison that I make all the time. And that’s Tyreek Hill being the Steph Curry of the NFL.
Like Steph Curry people can cite players they believe to be better because of size, length, etc, but no player has more impact on the offensive side of the ball.
Curry ain’t a 7 foot freak like KD and can‘t do many of the things KD can do but his impact on the game has been larger despite it all. His mere presence on the court causes defenses to extend their spacing out to 30-35 feet and jump every screen so he can’t launch which therein creates space and opportunities for every teammate.
Tyreek Hill’s presence on the gridiron accomplishes the exact same thing. He not only occupies valuable prep time for the opponent during the week leading up to the game but he also completely changes defensive strategies and game plans. He can’t do what 6‘3“, 6’4“ freaks like DK Metcalf or Julio Jones in his prime could do but he’s more impactful than both.
Opponents are forced to play 2 deep safeties more than they’d like. And like Curry coming off a rub or screen, defenses have to be ready to pounce on a simple bubble screen or hand off.
He opens up space and creates opportunities for others unlike almost anybody we’ve ever seen.
Tua Tagovailoa was already being underrated due to numerous factors outside his control, but now with a weapon like Tyreek Hill — he and the other play makers are being set up for success. So long as the offensive line can hold up.
