Tua is not that guy

If you draft well the window can stay open especially if you can draft well on the defensive side and OL. You give yourself a 4-5 year window before you have to start paying those defenders. Obviously that's easier said than done but so if finding an elite QB.
I don't even think the Chiefs have even drafted that exceptionally. They've just got superior coaching in Reid and Spags. Reid always knows the right 5 yard pass to call to Kelce, which is all they need to do because Spags has a defense that is stingy enough to keep every game close.

None of this 20 missed tackles bull...

Tell that to the chiefs who continue to win more and more games and have won 2 superbowls since paying Mahomes. His defenses have actually gotten much better since they paid him. It’s amazing what good coaching will actually do.
i specifically noted mahomes and allen as an exception. tell me again why trevor lawrence should have the same deal as mahomes?

No, they haven't drafted exceptionally well but they have added young elite/good talent which is the kind of talent infusion you need to keep that window open. Trent McDuffie is an all pro CB, Nick Bolton is a really good LB, and Karlaftis is a good edge rusher and all 24 and under. Throw in good coaching and the window remains open for a few more years until they have to start paying these guys.

I think the window is open until Chris Jones and Kelce are gone. Heck, it probably stays open after that, but it's gonna be such a different environment when those two are gone. They're the foundation that everything is built around.

McDuffie, Karlaftis, Bolton, Chenal, Sneed, Chris Jones, Bryan Cook, I'd say they've drafted pretty, pretty, pretty well.
They got their IOL from the draft along with Mahomes, Kelce and Worthy.

They have several pro-Bowlers and a couple of all-time greats, all through the draft.

Tell me again how they haven't drafted that exceptionally?
Getting a little worried about some of you young fellas. I guess you don't have any of these players on your fantasy team so they weren't great draft picks?

KC drafts really well, on both sides of the ball. Check their roster. I don't know what sport you guys are following. Spud makes a comment that they don't draft well and you go, "yeah, you know they don't".
KC is usually picking at the bottom of the round and they seem to do pretty well every year.

I agreed they don't draft exceptionally well. If Spud doesn't think so I'm not going to presume to know what his standards are for an exceptional draft. We all have our own standards plus not really in the mood to argue about another team's drafts since I don't really give a crap about the Chiefs.

I guess I'm at a higher level of literacy than some of you. Saying haven't done something exceptionally well isn't they haven't drafted well. In fact, it's saying they've drafted well, just not to an extreme level.

It's not like they've drafted the legion of boom or the 90s Cowboys. They've gotten a contingent of good players that well complements the great players on their roster, and for the most part the great players have been there for quite a while so not really thinking of them as recent draft picks- the ones playing on rookie contracts or just outside.

David Wiodley won 67 percent of his games and made it to the same amount of Super Bowl losses. That's the team Marino took over.

Tua took over a team than won 6 games the year before and had 1 playoff berths in the last 14 or so years. With a coach actively trying to sabotage him to bring in his own guy.
Context matters but I get what you’re saying. However, the ‘83 fins were going no where w an anemic offense and that’s why the coaching change was made. We were 2-3 or 3-3 on the strength of our defense when Dan got his first start. I think you’re trying say that Marino took over a good team and Tua did not? If so that’s fine and interesting and all :)

I'm willing to bet Raheem Mostert has more rushing TDs from shotgun than Jim Brown, I mean you can make lots of silly comparisons when shotgun wasn't used as the base offense like it is today.
Except Marino sat in the gun for a million snaps. More to the point, he was far more athletic than Tua. Yes, the man who could have been a pro baseball player as well as an NFL QB had better feet, quickness, bigger arm, faster release (could get it out in under 1.6 seconds and still have it travel 30-40 air yards) and finally…..better hands. Are we really comparing Tua to Marino? Wow.

You do realize that Mahomes developed with literally the sane receiver on o e side and a top 5 drafted receiver on the other? Allen only developed after acquiring Stefon Diggs.

Neither of those have star studded offenses anymore- and they win putting up mid offense because they have physical defenses where their 3rd stringers tackle better than our star
You are right, neither has stars at Wr anymore because both are on second contracts but Buffalo’s offense is averaging 29 a game, which is #3rd best. KC is averaging 24, which is #10th best in the league. I would not categorize either as middle ing. They both have quality lines and top defenses because those 2 guys can get it done with less at the skill positions and those teams spend their resources on their lines and D. It will only get worse for the Phins as Tua’s salary escalates in the coming years, while the Dolphins cap flexibility continues to be bottom of the league. They better start drafting a lot better moving forward.

Except you do pay $50+ million for fine. That is the standard in the NFL. Dak got $60 million, Lawrence got $55 million, Love got $55 million. Not one of these QBs are elite but in the NFL when you find a QB who’s good or fine this is the market for them. The market has spoken whether you like it or not. Purdy is about to get a pay day from the 49ers because what is the alternative? In any given era there 3-5 elite guys and there's everyone else. Plenty of non-elite guys have won SBs.
Agreed. Whether we think he’s worth the money is irrelevant. Had we not extended him (which I’m on record saying I wouldn’t have), and he had gotten concussed as he did, AND he came back like he did - he was going to get paid at least that much. The way the team performed with and without him raised his value a ****ton.
