Tua tanking for other reasons?

How is Tua fighting for his job? He's guaranteed his money this year and next whether he's starting, backup or sitting on a beach in Costa Rica.

He certainly doesn't appear to be fighting for anything at the moment.
He is fighting to stay starter in Miami. He already got money. Doesn't make him good.

You said fighting for his job. As far as fighting to start? Yeah anyone with eyes can see he obviously is not and does not seem to care.
Idk if he care or not. He still avg qb.pay Tua and move on. He still not the answer. The good team move on. The bad team keep players like Tua around.

I kind of wonder if Tua has developed a chip on his shoulder. He's certainly seen better days where even under Flores he showed flashes of brilliance but now his star has dimmed. The offense is not catering to his strengths. His production has fallen off. I think that what is laid bare here is that when things aren't set up for him, he is showing us that he does not find the optimal path for the ball to go.

This feels a lot different than the pre-Tyreek Tua who used to spread the ball around to 5, 6, 7, or 8 different receiving options.

I like a QB who sort of demands for his receivers to get open enough for the ball to come to them and for plays to be made. Coach doesn't have to move heaven and earth for that kind of QB to produce numbers. I'm not intending to make a dig at Tua, though. I just think that there are QBs who command offenses and expect everyone around them to work as hard as they do, but in this case I get the impression that if they worked as hard as Tua this team would be 1-16 -- which I would have preferred them to do, but the talent here is too good for that.

I don't know what the Dolphins can do, but they sorely need to find a veteran like Russell Wilson or Joe Flacco and try to just make things work while Tua eats the team payroll. I certainly don't think there's any advantage to trading away your top picks to free up the payroll, either. Just ride it out. Maybe call QB rushing plays until the insurance assumes Tua's salary. lol

Sorry, I know this isn't Madden. Still, I wonder how many QB rushing plays it would take to get him out of here. lolol

$25.2M reasons in signing bonus that the Dolphins can recoup from him.
I didn't understand the dead cap situation. I assumed if a player retired, that would free up the dead cap for the following year. If that was the case, Tua could work with the team and get a payout to alleviate the dead cap, but looks like that's not the case. Either way, I don't think he's being terrible on purpose.

Financially, Tua would be a fool to do anything except play until they cut him.

I think it's as simple as the fact that he got paid and now has 2 small children and a family at home and he would rather just stay home and be a dad and get fat. But he can't just quit because he would never live it down.

He’s a bum. Play after horrible play he walks to the sidelines with a “I don’t give a ****” smile.
I never liked him from the start.
I rooted for him to be successful and now I see why I felt this way all along.
He’s a bum.

I don’t trust him

I was looking at his play games this year and behavior and I am starting to wonder if this is a plan to retire. He was given his mega contract with the bonus money. I'm curious if this is some plan to simply show medical decline due to injuries and collect the contract or avoid paying back portions of the guaranteed monies.

While I've never been a fan of Tua is short passing game was reasonably solid in the past, now I'm curious if he his deliberately making bad throws/decisions to create a narrative. With this much money at stake, I could see this.....as a possibility.

Perhaps I'm just a dark thinker when it comes to people, so I'm curious, if I'm seeing things too darkly in regard to his intent.
i tend to agree, but don't think he leaves next years money on the table. i think we get one more meh season out of him, dolphins decide to part ways, tua dresses it up and says he is retiring. i think he has given up on the game. how he plays, and what he says.

Is he deliberately playing bad?

No i dont think so.

Is he watching enough film, training hard enough since dumping Nick Hicks' training company and putting in the hours nessesary to maximize his potential on Sundays?

No, and you'll never convince me otherwise.

His athletic ability has clearly declined, I dont know if its due to a degenerate hip or other injuries that have piled up or hes just not in football shape but hes never been slower when running and his arm has never appeared weaker.

But whats even more troubling than that, is his decision making/mental side of the game. If its not a screen pass, you can count on one hand how many "good" throws he makes per game. On deep passes, it seems like Tua just throws it as far as he can and starts praying as soon as the ball leaves his fingertips. If its not a 5-10 yard crossing route or screen pass, Tua either doesnt make the throw (and usually gets sacked) or chucks it downfiled. There isnt many plays in Tuas career where he goes through more than two progressions on any given play and his attitude after making a bad INT or missing on a 3rd down or going 3 and out, is always the same. He trots over to the sidelines with a smirk on his face and an "aw jolly, gee shucks ohh well" attitude after performing badly on the filed. I dont see the fire in his demeanor that leads me to think he cares very much about how his play is hurting the football team.

To make a long story a bit less long; Tua just isnt very good. Hes average to below average whos being paid top 6 QB money.
i think he showed up out of shape this year because he got the fat contract and will make enough guaranteed money that he is done. he just does not seem to care otherwise

It’s crossed my mind. He’s married with kids, got a generational payday and he’s been beat up. Maybe he doesn’t want to do this anymore but he’s not retiring unless he can find a way to keep the money

Once Tua signed his big dollar long term contract his focus and energy turned to golf.
