Tua tanking for other reasons?

It’s crossed my mind. He’s married with kids, got a generational payday and he’s been beat up. Maybe he doesn’t want to do this anymore but he’s not retiring unless he can find a way to keep the money
Which would involve playing (although not necessarily starting) for the Dolphins next season, or being traded to another team and playing for it next year (unlikely due to his contract), or being released by Miami, since his salary is guaranteed through next season whether he's on an NFL roster or not.

Based on salary-cap considerations, I'm expecting Tua to still be wearing the 'Aqua-&-Orange' in 2026, whether or not he ends up as the Dolphins' starting QB.

It's fine to roll with him anther season. I think Arch breaks out next year and that's our future.

Tua comes off in his post Saints game presser like a guy that knows he is struggling but he's trying his best to help the team win imo.
Please post the presser that shows what you are describing.

The one I saw was Tua with a shrug (attitude/demeanor), saying the team was a bit rusty due to the bye week.

That tells me the team literally said bye to football for a week or so.

If that is "what bye weeks are for," I would have to say that with a losing record and inconsistent play up to this point, not to mention the season is in the 4th quarter, the team's priorities are somewhat misaligned.

Then the Dolphins better make sure they get the #1 pick in the 2027 NFL draft. That means they would need to finish with no better than a 2-15 record in 2026.

I kind of wonder if Tua has developed a chip on his shoulder. He's certainly seen better days where even under Flores he showed flashes of brilliance but now his star has dimmed. The offense is not catering to his strengths. His production has fallen off. I think that what is laid bare here is that when things aren't set up for him, he is showing us that he does not find the optimal path for the ball to go.

This feels a lot different than the pre-Tyreek Tua who used to spread the ball around to 5, 6, 7, or 8 different receiving options.

I like a QB who sort of demands for his receivers to get open enough for the ball to come to them and for plays to be made. Coach doesn't have to move heaven and earth for that kind of QB to produce numbers. I'm not intending to make a dig at Tua, though. I just think that there are QBs who command offenses and expect everyone around them to work as hard as they do, but in this case I get the impression that if they worked as hard as Tua this team would be 1-16 -- which I would have preferred them to do, but the talent here is too good for that.

I don't know what the Dolphins can do, but they sorely need to find a veteran like Russell Wilson or Joe Flacco and try to just make things work while Tua eats the team payroll. I certainly don't think there's any advantage to trading away your top picks to free up the payroll, either. Just ride it out. Maybe call QB rushing plays until the insurance assumes Tua's salary. lol

Sorry, I know this isn't Madden. Still, I wonder how many QB rushing plays it would take to get him out of here. lolol
No, Russell Wilson = Lateral move. Have you seen him play the past couple of years?

I was looking at his play games this year and behavior and I am starting to wonder if this is a plan to retire. He was given his mega contract with the bonus money. I'm curious if this is some plan to simply show medical decline due to injuries and collect the contract or avoid paying back portions of the guaranteed monies.

While I've never been a fan of Tua is short passing game was reasonably solid in the past, now I'm curious if he his deliberately making bad throws/decisions to create a narrative. With this much money at stake, I could see this.....as a possibility.

Perhaps I'm just a dark thinker when it comes to people, so I'm curious, if I'm seeing things too darkly in regard to his intent.
He is not deliberately playing bad. He is trying his best, and this is what we get when he is at his best.

We ain't going get archie. Dolphins ain't going.be that bad next yr either.
You're probably right because the Dolphins never tank the correct way. They screwed up in 2019 when they had a chance to get the #1 pick and draft Joe Burrow. So I have no faith that they will do it the right way in 2026 even though they should tank next season for a chance to draft Arch Manning in 2027. It would be well worth it to have a chance to draft a generational QB. You think the Colts regret not tanking for a chance to draft Andrew Luck even though he retired early because of all the injuries he had? Same goes for the Bengals when they were able to draft Joe Burrow. I would rather the Dolphins finish at 2-15 next season compared to 7-10 with no shot at getting the #1 pick.

Say what you will about him as a football player, but as a man and a person with integrity and a high moral compass....he would never deliberately play poorly.

Sadly he is declining athletically and the injuries are probably catching up to him. Also he's mentally in a funk. Either way, its time for the Dolphins to move on. I wish him and his family the best.
