Tua’s declining athleticism - opinion article

Bad analogy
Good coaches cut ties and the fat
BB was famous for cutting players who were still effective but on the other side
And his system and those decisions worked for years
McD made his bed
BB was more of a one off. He was acting as the GM during his tenure as Coach.

His system also included, arguably the best QB of all time.

Things went downhill immediately after the Brady divorce.

Agree, Mike won't win coach of the year, definitely not with Tua. (but maybe...)

I saw this the other day, and immediately thought; this is not the seme guy physically.

Never mind the running, there's a bunch of throws that sims like he can't make any more. Beautiful 35, 40 yards straight forward passes, no the 100ft. In the air, strenuous throws he makes now every pass over 20 yds.

Just look at the throw at the 7:23 mark, I don't think he can do that any more. Sad

This is all based in the strength and conditioning of a pro athlete, and taking care of your body, and trying to reach its apex condition

He has failed big time in this regard

It's time to accept the fact that his best days are behind him. Time to move on. I bought in when he was drafted. Even after the hip injury. Even after the concussion issues. His play this year is worse than his play when he was a rookie.
I think everyone including the coaching staff has realized that it it time to move on

This video is why we tanked for Tua. He was a generational qb prospect before the hip injury. He not the same guy. The hip is done and he doesn’t want to get hit anymore. It’s affecting his throws too.

Tua played 9 full games after his concussion last year and he was balling out until he hurt his hip against the Texans.

Tua’s hip was listed on injury report for 49ers game which he was a limited participant in practice but he played in that game (source). He decided to sit out the last 2 games of the season because of the hip. He hasn’t looked “right” since hurting the hip in that Texans game imo.

What’s your definition of balling out? Do you believe the only reason why he’s getting flack is because he’s having one bad season?? In the game he played in last year the team went 6-5. He hasn’t played a high-level game within the past two seasons so far. Since signing his contract, he hasn’t been a different maker, which was what we need at that position when you’re earning that type of money. I am not going to deny that there’s definitely an issue with his hip but his issues were already there before re-injuring it.

Finally, someone that really understands it. Many individuals that defend him always point to videos like this. My standpoint has always been we draft that Tua the person but we did not draft Tua the player and that is the big difference.

Trying to salvage this year is like re-arranging the furniture on the Titanic
This is why I’m not on board with the “any win is a good win” mindset for this particular team.

When a team has 3-4 win talent but manages to backdoor its way to 6-7 wins, it’s probably not good for long-term, meaningful improvement. Miami has counterfeited its way to 5 wins so far, at least IMO.

Exactly: Most on here don't get it...so let me spell it out: WE ARE TRYING TO WIN A SUPER BOWL!!! A winning record is not good enough, a playoff appearance is not good enough, a playoff win is not good enough. This team won't even break .500 and yet some on here get a damn erection over beating the Saints!

First thing you notice is the quickness in the pocket, Tua is about half of that now.

Second thing is he can only make about 20% of those throws.

A shadow of his former physical self who seems checked out mentally as well, just listen to his mic'ed this week against the Saints, there's no competitive fire at all

My definition of balling out is Tua’s 7 game stretch after coming back from the last concussion and before the hip injury he was producing at a statistically elite level:

15 TDs, 1 INT
Passer rating 112.4 (2nd in NFL)
Passing yards per Game 281.8 (2nd in NFL)
Air Yards per Attempt 8.45 (3rd in NFL)

Tua was still throwing it down field with the best of them after his last concussion in 2024.

I'll disagree with the bolded. Yes, I want a SB win. In fact, 3 in a row. But, given the last 2 years, I, and probably most Fin fans, would consider a Conference game loss a successful season. If that is showing progress toward a SB win, that's "good enough" for that season.

Respectfully, I don't think The Don would think that. Fact is this team has regressed each year under McDummy...NO WAY this team is even close to a playoff conversation.
