great hire by the Gophers, and probably a good move on Tubby's part for a couple reasons...

1)The outrageous expectations of Kentuckey
2)Aside from this year with Ohio State, there is no dominant school at recruiting like the SEC
3)The Big 10 is wide open every year
4)If he makes the tournament he'll be a hero

my guess is the annual John Callipari leaving Memphis rumors will start up real soon.

This news really sucks. This almost brought tears to my eyes and it actually did make my girlfriend break down and cry. Contrary to what a lot people think, there are a ton of people here in Lexington that love tubby and hate to see him go. Classiest guy you will ever meet.

yaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy!!!!!!!! Tubby's coming to Minnesota...im pumped.

Tubby probably helped Kentucky out by leaving. They couldn't fire him and he wasn't getting the job done. He had some great regular seasons but 1 final four in ten seasons is not enough for Kentucky basketball. I don't think he's signed a top 50 recruit for next season and like every College athletics announcer states "it's not about the x's and o's, it's about the Jimmys and Joes." I think Tubby is as good of an in-game coach as their is in America, just he hasn't brought in the players. Calipari IMO should be Kentucky's number 1 choice but other guys like Billy Gillepsie, Tom Crean, Mark Few will be on the list. Tubby must be really fond of Minnesota because the Wildcats have 4 starters coming back and Morris seemed to turn the corner. It's a good move for Minnesota because it's a "name" and he's going to win some games but nothing big.

I think Doyel is correct. Out of the names just being tossed around thus far Pitino and Donovan are going to get alot of attention though both are far-fetched ideas.

Don't assume that Donovan won't listen or even accept the Kentucky job. It would be foolish to think that, UK is a premier job, with a fan base that no one can match. I'd say it's 50/50 that Donovan will be the UK coach in April.

Rick Majerus is the leader for the Kentucky job if he wants it. His health may prevent him from taking it.

Great move by Tubby. Screw Kentucky and those nut-jobs around that program. Anything short of winning it all (which in NCAA hoops is next to impossible to do consisently) and you are under fire year in and year out. It's a joke!!

Ummmm.... Rick Majerus is a definite no. He had some pretty nasty things to say to UK after he lost to them in the championship game. Although I like to think Donovan would return to UK, I highly doubt that too. I really believe that the next coach at Kentucky coached in the Memphis vs. Texas A&M game tonight. In my opinion, its either going to be Calipari or Gillispie (I'm rooting for Gillispie personally). Seriously though, most UK fans are not "nut-jobs" that think Kentucky should win it all every year. This is an image that ESPN and the rest of the media created. A good chunk of us really did care for Tubby.

Kentucky's basketball coaching job is what the Alabama football coaching job was. Too high of expectations and nobody is going to want it. If you win you're a god, but if you don't meet those expectations it's your head.

I don't think that's the case at all. Kentucky has high expectations but so does UNC, Duke, and UCLA. Going to one final 4 in 10 seasons is going to get any coach into trouble at those schools besides Kryszewski. He already has done enough their to be stay as long as he wants. When Tubby took the job it was the best program in the country. Now they can't land a top 50 recruit. Tubby is a great man and maybe the best x's and o's coach in America. He just can't bring in the players. Duke was a 6 seed this year and it was abnormally low for them and it got some media attention. They probably deserved lower but that's a different arguement. Kentucky has been an 8 seed the last two years. Has not gotten past the opening weekend 3/4 seasons. The program has eroded under Tubby because he hasn't got the players. Ahead of Billy Donovan or any other coach in College Basketball I think Kentucky should hire John Calipari. It's somebody who can recruit and I think is a guy who could bring Kentucky back. I think they're going to bring in a "star" coach because it is a top job.

After Tubby first left I though their was little possibility of Donovan coaching UK. Right now I think he's going to take the job even if Florida wins another championship. He hasn't really said anything that would make me think that he's not interested.

I heard this on a Lexington station this morning:
UK is also looking into signing another Coach, other than Donovan. He is a Chinese Olympic team basketball coach.

Coach Whin Won Now

How bad is this joke? Really? So corny it's funny, if you're familiar with UK's rabid fans.
