The evolution of first-round pickLaremy Tunsil continues.

The offensive lineman from the University of Mississippi got the opportunity to start Friday night in the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys and continued showing progress.

Tunsil knows full well, though, that there’s still work to be done.

“It was nice playing with those guys, playing with the 1’s was nice,” Tunsil said before practice Sunday. “But we never know with the positions. I don’t know if I’ll be starting or not. We are still rotating. I’ll continue to work every day.”

Tunsil started at left guard with veteran Jermon Bushrod getting the start at right guard. Those two have been battling throughout training camp with returning starters Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner for the guard positions.

Head Coach Adam Gase said the battle is still ongoing and could keep going for a bit longer.

“We’re going to keep moving guys in and out and trying to find our best five at the end of the day,” Gase said. “I trust Chris (offensive line coach Chris Foerster) to keep shuffling the lineup around until we feel like we got the five we want.”

You will soffer some growing pains early on, but once he get assignment sound he will end up being are bast lineman.

Should be learning to play LT in the NFL, not guard.

I disagree. There are plenty of first year players that spend some time at guard. He is doing well in pass protection as you would expect. He has a lot to learn about playing guard within the context of the running game. I am confident he will done a good job for us after climbs that learning curve.

This is lip service. Tunsil is gonna be the starter and if that was ever in doubt, that doubt was ERASED on Friday.

Not really responding to myself, but just realized how much I butchered this sentence...

On to the line as a whole....

This line should be a good group in pass protect, the issue could be is in the run game, very little drive in any.

Tunsil playing inside, the guy is far too talented to let a season or 2 inside prevent him from becoming an excellent LT when it comes time. The coaches already put him there a fair number of snaps during camp and when it comes time to make that transition I honestly doubt he struggles, just based on his lateral movement, hell, even now he looks like it is almost no effort on some of the pass protections.

if albert resumes his form of last year when he was healthy, and pouncey gets back 100%, them and tunsil are going to be quite the pass protecting left side of the line. finally, no turnstile at LG.

Tunsil is by far our best LG player in years ... even with the penalty and adjustments he needs to make. In pass pro he looks outstanding. He is still inconsistent, which is absolutely to be expected, but until Albert gets injured, Tunsil is definitely our LG. When Albert gets injured, we have our LT.

I understand Gase wanting to keep him motivated and to keep his confidence level high. But everyone sees it ... this kid is special. As long as Albert keeps mentoring him, and as long as Tunsil listens ... we got a steal in the draft. Cornerstone OL for the next decade and its only a matter of time before he is playing LT and making the Pro-Bowl ... with a very real chance at All-Pro once it all comes together for him.

Wait, is whether Tunsil will be the starter at LG still a topic?

The only way he isn't is if (when) Albert is injured.

Yep.

And at seasons end everyone will be saying the biggest mistake was not puting tunsil in at his natural position day one. I didnt think albert was all that last year and dont like what i'm seeing already. He is struggling with those quick de's giving him those inside moves. Thats because he has old, slow legs.

Appears gase is going to ride out his blunder of promising albert the lt gig before camp ever started. Its going to backfire on him big.

Yeah I don't think Dallas Thomas will be starting at LG, folks.
