Discusses the breakdown by the Skins ST on the Landry punt return and the play of Brandon Scherff against Suh (with lots of photos).

On Suh..
Credit should go to Jay Gruden, Sean McVay and Bill Callahan, who put together a game plan that gave Scherff as much help as they could. Last week, I pointed out that Miami often ran a 4-3 over front, meaning the Redskins could use certain formations to force Suh in the A gap to help Scherff. Early on, they did just that.

I hate that Suh lines up this way. IMO, it almost dictates which way he's coming(slating in this case) and tips the offense. Any competent OC and RB i think should be able to scheme against him here. ARGGGHHHHH!!

See what I mean...If you play more honest lined up directly over the Guard it creates two things: 1) Makes it harder for them to cut-block you. 2) Give you leverage on being able to react/position yourself better to counter type plays.

So that's why all the other teams have such good success against Suh. I wouldn't have guessed it.

I guarantee you most other teams don't employ the Cut Block stuff as much as Washington. When you implement that with what I'm referring to here and our bad LB group. The problem is magnified! Now if you would like to offer legit rebuttals on the pictures posted here. Then lets talk..However if that's all you got..generalize statements..then your post can go kick rocks!

It's simply one play. Suh lines up in multiple techniques (1, 2i, 3) along our front depending on the over/under shifts and stack forms.

It's most of the 1st half. Suh technique and others of the interior Dline was way different in the 2nd half.

To me it just loos like the spacing between the def lineman is HUGE and it does not look like the Lbs are able to fill those gaps adequately

We dont have McCloughan to find talented linemen, don't have Bill Callahan to coach Oline, and don't have Scherff but Douglass and Turner. Redskins are just better in those departments.

Didn't realize that Bill Callahan is their new Oline coach. He is excellent.

The questions is why is he lining up in the 1 technique? He is arguably the best 3 technique DT in the NFL. Like you said lining up here just makes it easier to double team and cut him. The questions is why did he. My guess is Coyle. Remember last year when Odrick called him out for Coyle putting the D Linemen out of position? It's almost like Coyle is thinking, "well they are going to double team him anyway, so let's use him as bait." UHGGGGGG It was driving me nuts during the game.

In the first half of the game he predominately lined up in the 1 technique.

D Line better get its **** together. Cut blocking is nothing new and guys of Suhs caliber should know how to counter that by now.

Scherff looks like the next great guard. One game obviously but he looks the part. Maybe next year we can grab a RG like him in the first and have Douglas go back to LG where he should be.
