I know we went out and signed Larry Johnson because Daniel Thomas has a sore hammy, but this team still could not pick up short yardage situations automatically like we have the past couple of years. I liked cutting Sapp and resigning Allen simply because Allen is good at playing outside too, in case Davis or Smith are gasping for air again. But I think resigning Lou Polite and cutting Larry Johnson would help this team a lot. LJ didn't see a single carry against New England. We had several 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 situations that Lou was always automatic from that we failed to convert. Lex isn't big enough to drop the hammer up the middle. And while I thought putting Soliai in as lead blocker was clever, he still didn't do a very good job lead blocking. The other move that should happen is cutting Justin Trusnik. This guy committed several penalties throughout the preseason, and then had two costly holding calls on kick returns against the Pats. The guy is a bum. I don't know who to replace him with, but I hope we don't see #93 called for any penalties this week against Houston.

Really if Hilliard is our short yardage/full back why didnt we just put him in there? either as a lead blocker or to get the ball?

I dont understand why we didnt run a toss play or a sweet on that goaline plays?

Simply silly to me.

I think that's what they envision with Hilliard. He did have like 2 plays like Polite's short yardage plays. I think on the opening drive on 4th & 2. He can prob do what polite did and more, maybe not as solid of a blocker but will still be able to get it done. I want to see Clay in there also, if they felt he was better then Polite why not use him?

I think we need to give Clay a chance then see how that goes. They need to give LJ the ball as bush is NOT a between the tackles back. He is a outside runner. I do agree that we should have kept lou but need to give the new kid a chance before we write him off.

I wonder if Houston would part with Slayton? He is like 3rd on their depth chart. He would be 1B on ours.

hell we have barely seen clay play so how is fb solved lol

We still don't know if Clay's noggin can take the pounding as fullback. The man has to be willing and able to run into a wall 30 times a game.

Shaun O'Hara, and Tully Banta-Cain is the moves I want to see :)

my thoughts exactly... theres about 10 plays or more that are easier for an offense to execute than a fade route to the corner of the endzone. I've always hated the fade. qb has to throw a perfect ball, wr has to be in perfect position, against both the sideline, backline and a defender, sometimes a good to great defender...

bush got to the corner once. he could do it on a sweep, swing pass, dive over the top, I think he could have scored on that dive if solia didn't stop to scratch his head at the LOS... hell, welker got his td on a quick out pattern... if you send the WR out and act like its a fade and stop or do a qucik 3 yard curl... you can't defend that....

they should have had lj get the td on that 4th down. why are you paying the guy if you are not going to use him
