"You're kidding yourself to think you can get a lot out of it," said Vermeil, whose team plays the Dolphins tonight at Dolphins Stadium. "The day when you used to have two backs in the backfield like [Jim] Kiick and [Larry] Csonka are gone unless you have one running back as a 245-, 250-pound lead blocker.

"When you've got two [tailbacks] in there, you're going to have an eight-man front to run against. One of them had better be a superior blocker. You're better off not having them in there in that capacity"

Do you agree ?

That's coming from a guy using Priest and Larry(maybe not together). He is a moron!! I can't stand him or anything he says. I think he is scared of R & R

Its confirmed! Vermeil has finally gone senile

with what we have to block for both R & R i agree, our OLINE just flat out sucks, granted they may have a couple good blocks but they are not consistent specially with the penalties being a factor. but thats just MO. i could be wrong.

I figure it would take 2 post to call Dick V. senile.

Too bad hes right, there is only one ball to go around. One guy better be able to block as well as run the ball.

Uh....Dick....you haven't done your homework. Ronnie CAN block ....
...........................................................................................
......and run..........................and catch.

Obviously he hasn't seen any of the film on Ronnie's bone-jarring blocks? That's OK, as soon as they get the Offense going then the "Pony" package will start doing some damage...

Dillon & Faulk did pretty well last year & Westbrook & Staley a couple years back.

he makes a somewhat valid point except for one thing........Ronnie Brown IS a superior blocker!!! Ricky and Ronnie are also very good recievers too and I think you'll probably see both of them in on passing downs more than running downs. Also this offense doesn't use a FB very often anyway, so what does it matter if we have two RB's and no FB as opposed to one RB and no FB two is better than one isn't it????

Sure you're gonna get an 8-man front like Vermeil said, but don't you get that a lot of the time anyway? Now go 'head and put your 8-man front on me, I'll split Ronnie out into the slot, and you'll have to put that 8th man on him. Now I have 7 in the box, I can run Ricky at 'em, or I can split McMike out wide on the other side and have him matched up on a LB in the open field. And now I got SIX in the box too. Good luck Vermeil.

:rofl3: i have to disagree.

first off, the Chiefs dont put both RBs on the field at the same time. thats what hes talking about. he plays one, then takes him out and plays the other. thats what the fins do too.

hes just saying you shouldnt go with 2 rbs sets cus there is a big downside to it.

he is a great coach. and why would he be scared of R&R, when the fins are only going to run the ball 20 times? if anything i think the fins should be scared of their O-Line.

Let's see, with Ricky and Ronnie in the backfield, that's only 2 players, right? You still have the five linemen and the QB. If my math is correct, that's 8 players. That leaves the possiblity of of 3 WRs or 2 WRs and a TE or 2 TE's and a WR. Hmmm, Yea, go ahead and put 8 in the box when Ricky and Ronnie are both in the backfield. With 8 in the box, you'd have receivers like McMichaels and Chambers with one on one coverage. I'm only an armchair QB and I could come up with NUMEROUS passing plays with 2 RBs in the backfield and burn the hell out of a defense.

Indeed, IF we actually had a QB that could take advantage of it.

Wait, wait... Then why does he use Holmes and Johnson?... Dick Vermiel isn't good for anything but motivation and caring personally about players.
