Joe Thomas...

The Cleveland Browns were a pretty bad team for quite a few years... They finally began to turn things around last year and I think a major part of that has to be because of Joe Thomas solidifying the left side of the Oline... Derek Andersons success has to be do in large part to the drafting of Joe Thomas, among other things (emergence of Edwards, Winslow)...

I dont believe he projects to a RT...He's a LT and a REALLY powerful LT at that (Repped 225 37 times!!!).. He will definitely be leading the league in pancakes in a couple of years...Imagine how sweet this sounds...
Carey will easily solidify the RT position.. he played pretty damn well at the LT spot, imagine him at the RT spot
Samson Satele- will only improve at the C spot
Guard-Justin Smiley, young guy with so much potential
LT- Jake Long..power power power on that left side...1 sack his senior year! 1 penalty in FOUR years of college! insane!

As for Chris Long, or even Vernan Gholston... yes theyre both REALLY good players...but remember this... we have ONE more year of two REALLY good pass-rushing OLBs in JT and Joey Porter.. so if you really think about it, we can always solidify the OLB spot in NEXT YEARS draft... bc Chris Long wont really play too much this year but will get paid like a starter.

Oh latest quote from Jake Long on "Jim Rome is Burning"
"I play through the whistle and if someone is going down, I'll pile drive him into the ground." ... gotta love that

Jake Long is the pick I would not worry to much about it. Coach Tony said so. Read between the lines. WE HAVE A HOLE AT THE TACKLE POSITION!!!

He bascially spelled it out naming the defensive and offensive starters and then saying we are not tied to drafting any one player. ex: Matt Ryan, Chris Long.

Jake Long is the pick.

I can't believe that the Sporting News Draft Guide rates Jake Long as a 2nd round pick. They have him rated as the 3rd best tackle ....behind Ryan Clady and Chris Williams. They said Jake Long is overhyped and will only be an elite right tackle prospect.

Actually, I think the "The Dolphins need a LT so let's draft the highest-rated one" for Jake Long is just as bad as the "The Dolphins need a QB so let's draft the highest one" for Ryan. You need to make an argument for the PLAYER, not for his POSITION.
I dont believe he projects to a RT.
At least you're on the right track here (addressing him as a player), but could have filled this out a little more as to why you don't believe he projects to a RT.
He's a LT and a REALLY powerful LT at that (Repped 225 37 times!!!).
Powers nice, but really doesn't tell us anything about how much technique he has.
He will definitely be leading the league in pancakes in a couple of years.
I'd say you're being a little overoptimistic here.

I'm more interested in which player is going to be better for the team long-term than I am in for just this year. Also, with some judicious drafting, there's no reason why the team can't solidify both positions this draft. And when you come right down to it, they're going to have to solidify more than one position per draft to get the team turned around anyway.
Oh latest quote from Jake Long on "Jim Rome is Burning"
"I play through the whistle and if someone is going down, I'll pile drive him into the ground." ... gotta love that
Quotes are nice, but they don't really tell us whether a player can walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

He bascially spelled it out naming the defensive and offensive starters and then saying we are not tied to drafting any one player. ex: Matt Ryan, Chris Long.

Jake Long is the pick.
So he's basically saying the Dolphins aren't tied to drafting any one player... except Jake Long?

I think Jake Long will be a fine choice.

I feel that it's easier to get a DE in free agency than it is to get a LT.

Carey only gave up 3 sacks last year and we ran the ball pretty well. Why don't we get 3 OT's with our 1st and with both second rounders as well. As horrid as our run D was and the little passrush the D was getting. Thats way in this rich deep draft of OT's well be set for the next 13 years.

He's not Joe Thomas, not even close. This is a dumb argument by itself.

what do you mean not even close?

I remember when they drafted Joe Thomas the talk was he had some footwork issues and he may not be fast enough to keep up with the speedy DE of the NFL.

They are very similar in many ways IMO. Strong, smart hard working guys that just seem to get better.

Jake Long is stud and the argument should not be can he play and is he worthy of a number 1 pick but what do we need more!

I won't for one second sit here wasting my employers time and blow smoke up your butt about who's better Jake or Chris. I want us to pick a player at the position we need the most.

If that position is O line Jake is the only choice!

Joe Thomas can move his feet well and J Long can't thats why alot of scouts think he'll be a better fit at rt in the NFL. But you don't draft a RT at #1.

ya our rush defense was abysmal so we cleaned some things up... jason ferguson, randy starks, joey porter not injured, no more 50 year old nose tackle, zach was injured last year- now we can move on... so defense will be better than last year... we dont have a LT! and as good as Carey was at LT, he'd be a MUCH better LT

i have a pretty firm firm belief it will be JAKE long.

all the he's a rt tackle junk is nonsense! heck, there were mags
and scouts who said joe thomas would be a rt tackle. jake is
strong as a rabid ox and mean as one. i'll take that!! he is a LT.

but..........

like it or not, the DARREN MCFADDEN pic is gaining more ground. even
though i have wanted him from the start, i didnt think they would actually
do it.

little things, like bill saying best player always early, ireland saying yesterday
that he doesnt like needs early, he likes best player and guys who are good
on film, not in the combine reps. that is nice if they have both, but like he said,
the film doesnt lie! and mcfadden looks good on film and blew away his combine
and pro day.

TODAY, there is an article with sporano talking about how he covets the 2 back
set that is popular in the nfl right now. he said you almost have to becuase of
injury and the production you get in games having 2 guys who can bring it. he
was talking about ronnie and ricky together again.

so, that being said... we have an INJURED and inconsistant ronnie brown, and
ricky williams who doesnt even like to play, is one toke away from gone forever and
isnt the ricky of old. and, he is OLDER!

drafting DARREN MCFADDEN covers EVERYTHING they want! best player. a player
who is going to be on the field 50-60% of the time. a player who is great on film,
was productive at his position, has VALUE for the money at the top of the draft.

and what better way to start off a 2 back set for the future than with darren
mcfadden? when you covet the 2 back, and you have a guy who has been
inconsistant and injured, the other a head case who is one more infraction
from being banned, your going to stand pat on that and pass up a mega talent
like mcfadden?

am i ABSOLUTELY sure they will draft d-mac? no.

are you "finz will NEVER draft mcfadden" guys ABSOLUTELY sure, after
all this, that they wont?

he sure fits EVERYTHING they say they want.

and isnt it funny, a guy with his talent, isnt even being seen or heard
talking with the finz?

weather you want him or not, you have to agree the guy is TOP 3
talent in this draft and the finz dont even set a meeting or talk
to him? this just doesnt happen. not with the that kind of talent.

teams ALWAYS bring in the top talent for interviews and workouts at
the top of the draft.

ok, thet are NOT drafting him and are not wasting there time.

or, is HE THE GUY, they know what they have seen and they are
good to go? while not tipping there hand to spoil any trades.

we will find out i guess. but you cant say that NOTHING is pointing
in d-macs way right now.

Huzengia said he wants someone who is a sure pick. Jake Long and Chris Long are the safest picks. PLus McFadden with thouse off-field issues might not help. Im going with Jake Long as our new LT. They wont spend #1 pick $ on a RT.

Joe Thomas also had the luck of having ERIC STEINBACH as his LG..

that.. kinda helps!
