Several NFL teams are waiting patiently, but as June melts into July, Ty Law's chances of landing a lucrative contract may have evaporated. While there hasn't been a definitive indication from Law's camp, the former Patriots cornerback could begin his second free agent tour of the offseason as early as next week. But as some league skeptics question whether Law's broken foot will be ready for a full slate of workouts in July, it's quickly becoming apparent that his shot a multi-year contract may have already passed.

Of the handful of teams interested in Law, all have issues that may prevent a marriage. Among them:

Miami Dolphins – While the Dolphins may have shown the most interest of any team at this point, they clearly have reservations about Law's long-term health and aren't expected to offer him more than a one-year deal. According to past statements by Poston, Law isn't interested in such a contract.

You could see him change his tune as to the one year deal idea. McDougle took a one year deal with Miami over a multi-year deal with I believe Pittsburgh, and he had good reason. You don't want to get locked into a multi-year deal at a time when your stock is down and you know that it could easily skyrocket with one healthy year played to your normal standards. Right now with how late it is, and the injury issue, Law's stock is down. If he sees a multi-year deal on the table I don't think it is likely it will be a deal that he will want to get himself locked into. If he takes that one year deal with Miami, stays relatively healthy, and plays relatively well, he can turn that into a very nice deal in 2006, IMO

Ya but hes also getting up there in age i still think its a possibility he takes the 1 year deal but he has to look at age as a factor also.

Right now we have to wait and see what his recovery looks like. If he bounces back to 90 to 100 % he can sign a huge multi-year deal the following year. I year vet min. and I'd take him in a heartbeat(duh) then reward him the next year. I want him and we do need him.

I think you're on the money for the most part -- except I don't think Law had the mindtrack of a Stockar McDougle when it comes to money. It's open that he's demanding to be a top-tier financially, something which I think is ridiculous. You're right, he's not going to get one of those deals this year and taking a one year contract would probably be his best option this year but in that case, I'd see him as playing for himself rather than the team.

When it comes down to it, I'd like to have him here just to do whatever. I don't want the glamour contract coming next season, nor do I want a one-time 'me' player taking focus away from our core players.

I think Saban has done the right thing. It's the same type of thing he did in the Ricky return, it's the same type thing he did in signing a large bulk of our F.A.'s and what he did with the Surtain deal. He laid a deal down and walked away. He drove two blocks from the drama and prevented any negotions coming into the mix. It also conceptualizes and solidifies Saban's "no budging" mix. I think it's great and Law knows that what is on the table won't come off.

IMO, it's us or NYJ and personal preference will play a very small part. Law will just be looking for somewhere to sit down for a year, clicking his fingers and twiddling his thumbs. I doubt neither Saban nor Edwards would be thrilled with the 'hold-back attitude' he may present (although he may provide unselfish veteran leadership) but he's not getting any younger so these mega-deals won't be jumping on his horse-floatg unless he has a magic season.

The best thing about Ty Law is that our defense and the Patriots' defense are very much similar. Ty Law won't have a hard time learning the Defense....He's got a house in Miami....He should sign with us I believe in July..

Another good thing is he wont be playing with the Pats.......hopefully

I would love to see him in Miami, but at this point he'd probably be smarter to wait it out. There's a good chance some team will have a corner get hurt before the season starts and be in a position where the feel they have no choice but to pay him. If that doesn't happen, he could still sign somewhere for the vet minimum. With his talent, someone will pick him up.

Laws first step is to swallow his ego, then I think the best he can hope for, will be vet minimum, with maybe some incentive clauses. It's a big risk taking a player with his type of injury, I don't imagine there are many teams willing to gamble on more than one year.

to me Law would be welcomed only in a relatively cheap 1 or 2 year deal. Poole is our future at CB.

Exactly, we only need Law for a year.

I just have a feeling that he is going to end up with the Jets. Curtis Martin is going to be the key factor of getting Law to NY. I doubt any team as of right now will give the kind of money that Law wants. The way i see it is that he will prob have to just take the leauge min and choose between us and the Jets. Lets all hope that he wants to come here more because he is living in Miami.
