You guys made some good points about Ray Drew and Ellis McCarthy and the parallel to Anthony Johnson last year.
Look at Drew's Rivals' page coming out of high school. Top player in talent-rich Georgia. Five-star. A top defensive end nationally out of high school. Compared with John Abraham. Expectations were obviously high.
I think it's fair to say we've come upon a trend with Hickey's regime, since he did this last year too with Anthony Johnson. Take a look at super high ceiling guys out of high school and see if there was a bad scheme fit or poor coach fit somewhere and hope the Dolphins can make a winner out of him.
The thing about a 53 man roster is, you can't fill it with stud 1st to 3rd rounders. The math doesn't work. We need to find some contributors from more creative places.
I said it elsewhere, but I think our 4th and 5th defensive tackle positions may be up for grabs with a spirited competition and I like it. McCarthy, Johnson, Francis, Kamal Johnson, et al. As for end, Drew may be looking at practice squad. Too much ahead of him with Wake, Vernon, Shelby, Fede.
