I was under the impression that the reason that this FO is down on Satele is because of his lack of size and strength. Well, I'm not sure exactly how much tougher or stronger Grove is than Satele, but according to NFL.com they are both the same exact size. Well, Grove is an inch taller but that's really irrelevant.

I suppose my question is, why are we giving a huge contract to a center that has underperformed and has been injury prone when we already have a guy that at least has been reliable and comes a lot cheaper? Not only that, Grove does not appear to be any bigger than Satele anyway, so the plan of getting bigger and stronger on the O-line does not apply anymore I guess.
Unless the FO has a TON of faith in Grove to be healthy and effective, and has a strict plan for what they want to do at the guard positions, I really don't get this signing. My guess is that they want to play Grove at center, move Satele to left guard, and have Smiley and Thomas battle it out at right guard. But then again, your guess is as good as mine.

I too was intrigued to find out he is about the same size as Samson. Maybe he is just meaner??? I see your reasoning though.

It's obvious that BP just doesn't like Satele at center.

In all honesty, we aren't giving Grove anything. The team is. The team, I would hope and assume, knows what they are doing. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

After all I've read on Grove, what we've gotten is a stronger Center with good technique. Now the question is how Satele responds..if he gets bigger and stronger, this should be a good camp battle...provided we don't trade Satele during the draft or TC.. But if the pride of Satele steps up like it did last year, then Grove will have to be handed the job because MR. S is not going to hand it over just like that, which is good for our OL if we keep Satele.

We aren't? Where do you think the team gets the money to pay these guys? From us, the fans. Ticket sales, TV ads that we watch, Sunday ticket programming, the purchasing of licensed products and wherever else they rape our pockets. So how is it that we aren't giving Grove anything?

I'm not worried about it at all. They've obviously seen alot more film on the guy than we have and worse case maybe they think he'd be an ideal back-up at center (and/or guard) for a player we have yet to draft/obtain and was worth the money.

Considering Sparano is an offensive lineman himself, I'd let that rest in this hands.

It is not about size (that's obvious) it is about style of play! This guy is one mean nasty s.o.b. and that is right up Parcells alley! Can you imagine the line that we have put together blocking for a 230 lb Ronnie Brown coming behind them for four quarters!

maybe they weigh the same but grove plays nasty and mean and has longer arms then satele. thats the only difference i see in the two. i think satele belongs at guard. he moves really well for a lineman. i love seeing him in screens. he is always out in front.

Thus why you must learn not to believe the media and everything you read. They are just biased opinions and speculations based on hearsay. Haven't you learned that already?

Is 15-20lbs really that much more? Is there a real answer to this question?
15-20lbs of muscle is a lot

If you have ever worked out you would know. With an NFL trainer though and sticking to an appropriate eating regimen it could be easily accomplished.

He is significantly stronger than Satele. During the 2004 draft, he had one of the top bench press reps. He has demonstrated to the ability to handle top NT one-on-one in a zone blocking scheme. He regularly makes key blocks in the running game. There is no doubt that he is an upgrade over Satele, but you are correct that he is significantly more expensive. My opinion is that he will be a top 10 center for us over the life of his contract.

Then don't buy anymore Dolphins gear. It's your choice to give them that money, but it doesn't mean you should have any say in how they spend it.
