In the bright sunshine of the Meadowlands this past Sunday, the Miami Dolphins extended the unbeaten record within the AFC East to 3-0. Jets fans in hourdes piled onto area bridges, ready to jump as they watched their team lose & then after the game, listened as the head coach and key players made excuses and cry about the loss.
Just as they were about to jump, a few of the fans who were still in possession of primordial synaptic / neuron functionality snapped that perhaps not all was lost.
Looking for any form of hope, the NY Yets and their fans turn to a most unlikely place in search of a season to salvage...and that place is none other than their hated rivals, the authors of a season sweep against them, the Miami Dolphins.
The Yets and their fans will watch with interest this coming Sunday as Miami goes for another victory in their division, this time in New England and on the road.
This is a big-time game for all three teams. Miami has the most to gain and lose in this contest, followed by the Jets (with a Miami victory, but they'd be okay with a Miami loss, too.) New England has nothing to gain by losing, and a win really helps them in their continuing evil quest of world domination.
If Miami wins, it will be HUGE...make no mistake about it. New England will still hold 1st place, but would only be 1 game ahead of Miami and the Yets. Should Miami continue to pile on the victories (many believe that their hardest games may be over,) it might put New England in the same awful position they were in last year, with a great record, but no playoffs because they lost the tie-breaker to the Finz, the win-loss record in the division.
So Miami at 3-0 is not yet sitting in the driver's seat of the AFC East...but they have their hands around the neck of the driver (NE) in a chokehold.
We want to kill the driver and get our own hands on the wheel!
Season over at 3-4? Not when those three victories are all within the division.
