Unsung "Heroes"

Here are the five I thought of...

Patterson
Brunskill
Julian Hill
Fitzpatrick
Douglas

Considered Brewer and Brooks, but they are starting to get their due.

Nice thread! I give thanks for Riley Patterson for being solid and Champ Kelly for dismissing the scouting staff.
Nice.

The scouting for day1-day2 drafts has been atrocious. Either that, or Grier didn't listen. Probably a combination.

Champ, say what you want about his GM qualifications, has spent the majority of his career in player eval, and the first thing he did was clean house at the top of the scouting department. I'm sure there was good reason.

When you're consistently taking the Jackson's over the Jefferson's that tells you it's more than the GM as problematic in Miami.

Waddle's another example. Really good player. Not a miss, but look who was available in his spot.

Every team has examples like this, but Miami's is a huge list.

Yes, every team/GM misses. It's the nature of the game.

But..... It seems that we have had way more than our share. Not only that, there hasn't seemed to have been any decernable overall, long term plan of roster construction , building over the course of time.

It’s strange but Grier seemed more successful at late round choices and UDFA than early choices.

Don't have the time, but it would be interesting to find how many All Pro draft picks each team has found in R1/R2 the last 10 yrs. we know Grier's organization's number.

Did he? Or was it just that his early picks failed so the late rounders got more opportunity than other teams?

I mean it does seem that we find some decent secondary players late, but had we not missed so badly on Iggy and Smith, they may not have even gotten a chance or made the team.
