What do you think about this Depth Chart? What needs to be improved on this team? What positions should be looked at in the draft? What are your suggestions?

Is this correct? They have hewitt as a strong side lb? The same guy who replaced jelani jenkins at will when he went out with an ankle is now listed at strong...a poa and take on position

Doesnt seem right unless hes added a lot of weight which i doubt he has the frame to carry

That CB depth and that RG depth oh my god

I really need to see major improvement this season from:

Jordan Phillips
Bobby McCain
Jelani Jenkins

I saw flashes, several times, throughout the course of last season ( did a rewatch of all our games, I'm bored what can I say ) and them showing me these flashes proves to me they can do it. Just need to do it more consistently. I need to see WAY more from Phillips on his run stuffing - get those pads lower. Stop being pushed backwards by a center by himself. He's an athletic freak with very fast feet and a pretty nasty set of finesse moves.

Bobby McCain is a little ball hawk but he doesn't have the athletic prowess to bite on inside/double moves, and he lacks the length to be a good boundary. He should probably stick to being a corner, and when he's there make sure he gets his hands in the receivers face more.

Jenkins I want to see in 2014 form. I need to see that sideline to sideline speed I saw before. I want those instincts blowing through the A gap and knocking a running back down for a loss. Coverage I'd like to see him not get taken so bad by the play action

Please dont tell me they already gave urbik the first team going into the offseason otas etc right guard gig...is this depth chart coming from the team or ops interpretation?

I don't think so hoops. There was an official one floating around a week or so ago though. I'm almost positive Hewitt was listed on the weakside, zigil was at strong.

Just another in the long line of below average guards he will fit right in

This is definitely the OP's depth chart . . . .however the team depth chart, the one that gets released around training camp, often has a few surprises that really do not mean anything. More than anything this provides a solid roster breakdown.

It should not be surprising when camp opens that both Thomas and Turner are listed as starting at guard (over Urbik and Bushrod), I know people will jump off a bridge at that moment, but it is pretty much common practice as they are the incumbents and no major signing has come in to cement vaulting over them. They could easily be getting 2nd and 3rd team work the same day the chart is released that has them on the first team.

Also the team is not going to release an official depth chart before the draft.

RG depth is ok for me if we start the season with Turner starting and Urbik as depth. Even LG with Douglas and Bushrod. Of course this assumes them improving from last year and being coached up better, but my money has always been on Douglas and Turner winning the jobs, with Bushrod as the "6th offensive lineman / swing tackle" and then the best interior option out of these rest (including what I imagine to be a top 73 pick on the oline this draft). Then inactive depth out of guys like Sam Young at tackle and whatever young or cheap guys we decide to fill the roster with. A guy like Dallas Thomas either improves enough to start or is cut . . He makes too much to be taking up roster space and not playing.

I like Phillips a lot, but definitely agree about him needing to step up his run game, really undisciplined last year and hopefully he is putting in work. It took Soliai a solid 3 years before he really "got it", Phillips is already ahead of the curve Soliai is on.

Getting rid of that reasonable Brice McCain contract tells me they are ready for Bobby to start at the nickel. You do not cut Brice unless you think Bobby is ready.

Jelani took such a step back last year it ain't funny, plus the guy is injury prone since his UF days. There is a reason there is interest in Myles Jack (before and after the trade) and its not because of lack of confidence in Kiko Alonso. Jelani has always been talented, but health drags him down. If he plays anything like 2014, Alonso is healthy and Koa stays on the field . . . This will be the best LB group we have had since that 3-4 we put out there with JT, Dansby, Burnett and Wake in 2011.

First depth chart doesn't come out until August and you have rendered that one meaningless. :D

true...but this is an offseason after guys have already played so the official should have guys in their correct positions regardless of where someone is on the initial depth chart...ie Newville Hewitt should be listed under weakside etc

I do agree that depth charts at the start of camp are meaningless but if you see a guy get first team reps throughout all of otas and minicamps etc its' pretty likely that players plan a going into camp

my personel opinion is that one of those guard spots should be billy turners to lose...I don't think he will if he makes the strides I'm expecting in overall play

McCain is not playing LB either..so wont count on that chart.

• On Chris McCain, who is being moved back from linebacker to defensive end: “This is one of those where we’ve had this discussion. We’re trying to put him in a position where he can stay at one spot and roll.

I think the obvious answer there is he's just not smart enough to learn an off the los lb...I doubt he will get much run as a de
