7 for the fins. Things to remember...
1.We gave Minny last year's 2nd for Daunte
2.Jake Long and Sam Baker are staying in college.
3.This is based on CURRENT order
1) Detroit Lions – Brady Quinn QB, Notre Dame
I'm pretty sure this is a give in this yeaar. The Lions need a QB, and Quinn will give the Detroit fans hope.
2) Oakland Raiders – Calvin Johnson WR, Georgia Tech
Jerry Porter is well on his way out, and Randy Moss looks to be right behind him. Raider nation should be happy to have Doug Gabriel (why did they trade him again?) back and ready to compete to start in '07, and a healthy Ronald Curry, but a stud #1 receiver like Johnson could be used across from him..
3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Joe Thomas OT, Wisconsin
Thomas may have the ability to turn what is now an average, inexperienced offensive line into one of the leagues best up and coming units. Whoevers under center will certainly enjoy the protection of Thomas, along with second round pick Jeremy Trueblood at right tackle and last year's first round pick, Davin Joseph, at right guard.
4) Arizona Cardinals – Gaines Adams DE, Clemson
Matt Leinart and Edge are ticked that Thomas is gone, and Long and Baker stayed in college, so the Cards move to the defense. Berry, when healthy, is a great pass rusher. Okefor on the other hand has had stats comparable to Matt Roth the last two years (rememner, Okefor is also a lot older so that's not good).
5) Houston Texans – Adrian PetersonRB, Oklahoma
After passing up Reggie Bush in last year's draft to fill a defensive need, the Texans now pass up on multiple top defensive players to take the top running back they failed to land last off-season.
6) Cleveland Browns – Alan Branch DT,Michigan
Alan Branch has seen his stock soar, and while there are still many who believe that he's hardly a top ten pick, it would be hard for a team like Cleveland to pass up his potential as a 3-4 defensive end.
7) Washington Redskins – Leon Hall CB, Michigan
Shawn Springs is dinged up and getting older, while Carlos Rogers is a fine young corner drafted in the first round not long ago, the Redskins have virtually no depth at the position and Leon Hall may be an immediate starter in Washington.
8 ) St. Louis Rams – LaRon Landry S, L.S.U.
This may come to a surprise to some, as Reggie Nelson has turned himself into arguably a better prospect than Landry, but Landry is more of a "pure" safety if you will while Nelson plays corner aswell. With the Rams drafting Tye Hill in the first last year, they can now focus soley on the safety position by picking Landry.
9) Minnesota Vikings – Dwayne Jarrett WR, USC.
It has been said that the Vikings will completely blow off the wide receiver position in the first round, but with virtually no other need other than on the offensive line and no o-lineman suitable to pick at #9, they must "settle" for Dwayne Jarrett, the big bodied receiver who makes for a great compliment for Troy Williamson.
10) San Francisco 49ers – Reggie Nelson S, Florida
After waiving the once reliable Tony Parrish, the 49ers basically solidified the fact that they'll be looking at the defensive backfield early in the draft. Nelson is an arguable top ten pick as of right now, but easily the best defensive back on the board at this spot and surprisingly, the 49ers don't have many other pressing first round needs.
11) Carolina Panthers – Patrick Willis LB, Ole Miss
Dan Morgan's playing career is in jeopardy after another concussion, and the rest of the LB corp is pretty mediocre.
12) Green Bay Packers – Marshawn Lynch RB, California
Ahman Green has had a nice season, but the Packers shouldn't mind letting him walk this off-season in order to pick up the younger, fresher, and arguably more talented Marshawn Lynch.
13) Miami Dolphins – Darrelle Revis CB, Pittsburgh
Probably not the name you guys wanted to hear, but Revis has established himself as the 2nd best CB in the draft (if he choses to enter). He is also a dynamic return man that will take pressure off of Welker
14) Atlanta Falcons – LeMarr Woodlet DE, Michigan
The Falcons were banking on a top safety falling to them here, but with the top two off the board, they address another huge position of need. Michael Griffin is a possibility, but 14 is extremely high for him, and with both John Abraham and Patrick Kerney needing replacements very soon, defensive end should be just as great of a concern.
15) Kansas City Chiefs – Levi Brown OT, Penn State
Tamba Hali and Larry Johnson have both been very good for KC, so the Chiefs look to strike gold for the 3rd time with Penn State in the first round. Plus, the O-Line for KC has been pretty bad (especially at LT)
16) Pittsburgh Steelers – Anthony Spencer DE/OLB, Purdue
Spencer has worked himself into the first round. Porter looks like he's about done in the steal city, so Pitt gets his replacement
17) Buffalo Bills – Marcus McCauley CB, Fresno St.
The Bills have had a fair share of offensive woes this off-season, but a small and speedy receiver like Ted Ginn Jr. wouldn't fit across from Lee Evans, and they seem to be committed to JP Losman, at least heading into '07. Nate Clements may walk as a free agent, and the team doesn't appear to have a suitable internal replacement. McCauley has struggled greatly as a senior at Fresno St., but still has the tools and potential to be a great corner in the NFL.
18 ) Tennessee Titans – Ted Ginn Jr. WR, Ohio St.
Despite my belief that Ginn is overrated, the Titans will be happy to have him fall into their laps here at #18, giving Vince Young a young target at WR to grow and develop with, while adequately replacing Drew Bennett, who is likely to be let go as a free agent this off-season.
19) New York Giants – Daymion Hughes CB, Cal
Madison has definatly lost a step, and Webster is only average. The G-Men add depth and youth to their lackluster secondary.
20) New York Jets – Amobi Okoye DT, Louisville
Dewayne Robertson has had his moments at nose tackle, but when it comes down to it he's simply been too inconsistant to trust long-term. With not much behind him, Okoye would bring the Jets not only talent but depth on the defensive line, as he may also be used as a defensive end.
21) Jacksonville Jaguars – Justin Blaylock OG, Texas
In talking with Jag fans, the one thing they want is o-line. Blaylock is the best available.
22) New England Patriots (f/ SEA) Jeff Samardzija WR, Notre Dame
Chad Jackson hasn't been able to stay on the field, nor has Jabar Gaffney, Troy Brown is aging, and Doug Gabriel is back in Oakland. Yeah, they need a WR.
23) Philadelphia Eagles – Paul Posluzney LB, Penn State
Matt McCoy has proven to be inadequet as a starter, and even if Omar Gaither turns out alright, Dhanti Jones could use an upgrade.
24) Denver Broncos – Ray McDonald DE/DT, Florida
Ray McDonald's position is yet to be determined, but the fact that he can dominate at either one has been proven. The Broncos can use him at either defensive end or defensive tackle, since they really don't have a dominant pass rusher or run stuffer.
25) Cincinnati Bengals – Quinn Pit****
With the heartbreaking news that David Pollack's career is more than likely over, the Bengals could look at LB, but they desperatly need help at DT.
26) Dallas Cowboys – Michael Griffen S, Texas
Dallas has needed a S to put alongside Roy Williams for 3 years now. Griffen is the guy they've needed.
27) New Orleans Saints – Buster Davis LB, Florida State.
The Saints' linebackers were thought to be their achillies heal coming into the season, but castoffs Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle have been solid enough on the outside. However the same cannot be said about Mark Simoneau, who may have solidified himself as a reserve linebacker this season after being traded from Philadelphia. Buster Davis will plug that hole in the middle right up and add some youth to the linebacker corps of an up and coming Saints defense.
28 ) New England Patriots – Eric Weddle CB/S, Utah
Weddle isn't highly regarded as a first round pick, but not only do the Patriots always draft unpredictably, but Weddle may soon find himself being discussed as a late first round pick. New England will likely have a need at both safety and cornerback heading into the draft, and Weddle's versatility offers them depth at both positions, and likely a long-term solution at one.
29) Indianapolis Colts – DeMarcus "Tank" Tyler DT, NC State.
The Colts' run D is embarrassing. I have been saying Aaron Rouse to them for awhile, but I've got to go with a DT heare.
30) Baltimore Ravens – Aaron Sears OT, Tennessee
The Ravens have had trouble protecting the quarterback for a few seasons now, and can't be happier with arguably the second best offensive tackle in the draft (not counting Justin Blalock) falling into their laps this far into the first round.
31) Chicago Bears – Rufus Alexander LB, Oklahoma
Lance Briggs doesn't appear to be heading back to Chicago, suddenly leaving a gaping hole in Chicago's great defense. The Bears shouldn't wait to replace him, and shouldn't hesitate with Alexander on the board.
32) San Diego Chargers – Johnnie Lee Higgins WR, UTEP
Vincent Jackson looks to be a keeper, but Keenan McCardell is 37, and Eric Parker is only average. Higgins is also the burner that the San Diego WR corp needs.
Rest of the Phins
2)Josh Beekman OG, Boston College
We need some O-linehelp, and our weakest position have been LT/G. With Jeno suffering some chronic injuries, and LJ Shelton a potential cap casualty (making a bit much for an RG). The All-American Guard looks like a good pick to me.
3)Matt Spaeth TE, Minnesota
This pick has nothing to do with replacing either McMike or Peele. It's just both of them are 6'3/4. Booker iand Hagan are 6'2, and CC/Welker are under 6'. Spaeth is not only a great recieving TE, he's also 6'7. He'd definatly help our red zone offense.
4.Stewart Bradley LB, Nebraska
At 6'4 250 he looks like a prototypical LB for our defense. Who knows, he could very well be starting opening day for us next season.
5.Given to Detroit for Joey
6.Isaiah Stanback QB, Washington
I wanted to draft a QB with this spot, and I was torn betwen Stanback and Jesse Palmer (brother of Carson). The deciding factor for Stanback is his mobility, and strong arm (which if he ever ended up starting for us would come in handy).
7.Chase Pittman DE, LSU
A DE/DT tweener with a high motor that played under Nick Saban. His draft status has been hurt a lot due to injuries suffered over his career.
