It's been awhile since I did one of these. For those who have never seen my mocks, or don't remember, 1 round for everybody, 7 for the Fins.
First Round
1. Oakland Raiders:Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech Thugh it may be tempting to go for JaMarcus Russell, Calvin Johnson is a once in a lifetime type of player. Mass might still be a malcontent, but Jerry Porter seems to have his head on straight right now. Even with those two, there is a giant drop off in talent to Ronald Curry and Alvis Whitted. There are some good QBs at the top of round 2.
2. Detroit Lions: Gaines Adams DE, Clemson This pick might shoc you, but Adams has been a top 5 pick for the better part of two months now. After trading James Hall, their only pass rusher for peanuts, the Lions signed Dwayne White; a man that has never had more than 8.5 sacks in a season. Kalimba Edwards is a bust, and Shaun Cody is better suited to play DT. This is not a reach, but not a sexy pick either
3. Cleveland Browns: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU If Russell goes number 1 overall, the pick is Adrian Peterson. If not, it's Russell. Phil Savage has known Russell since he was a kid, and they're both from the area. I don't think the Browns want to give up on Frye, but if Russell is available...
4. Tampa Bay Bucs: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville In 2 of the past3 drafts, John Gruden has fallen in love with Michael Clayton and Cadillac Williams; he drafted both players. This year, he has a man crush on Okoye. If CJ is available, they won't think twice about who to draft, but if CJ goes before this, Okoye will be in for a pleasant surprise
5. Arizona Cardinals: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin It's no secret that the Cardinals need o-line help. A couple months ago, this looked damn near impossible. Now, they'll be thanking they're lucky star. Thomas fits right in with the power game Wisenhunt is looking to instill.
6. Washington Redskins Adam Carriker DE/DT, Nebraska No one has seen their stock sore like Carriker. The fact that he can play either DT or DE makes him that much more valuable. Th Skins need a pass rush, and they need somegood run stuffers. Why not kill two birds with one stone?
7. Minnesota Vikings: Laron Landry, S, LSU Shocked? Probably shouldn't be. Darren Sharper is not getting any younger, and neither Dwight Smith nor Tank Williams are world beaters at safety (plus Tank is coming off of a serious knee injury). For a team that was pretty bad against the Pass, this pick should help.
8. Atlanta Falcons: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma The Falcons moved up to 8 with all the intentions in the world to draft Landry, but they'll take Peterson. Dunn and Norwood are a nice combination, but they don't fit the power running game Patrino is putting in place at Atlanta.
9. Miami Dolphins Brady Quinn QB, Notre Dame No Fin fans, this is not a pipe dream. As the draft gets closer, the more likely it looks like Quinn will be a Fin. I like Daunte, but his knee really concerns me, plus he's going to be in his 30's; we need to build for the future.
10. Houston Texans:Leon Hall CB, Michigan This spot is probably too high for Levi Brown so let's go with Leon Hall. The fact remains that aside from Dunta Robinson, the entire Houston secondary is forgetable. Hall might never be a shut down CB, but with Robinson, he won't have to be.
11. San Francisco 49ers: Alan Branch DT(3/4DE) Michigan Some compare him to Jimmy Kennedy, others John Henderson. Branch will probably be more effective early in his career in the 3-4.
12. Buffalo Bills: Pat Willis LB, Ole Miss The Bills get their wish, the best LB in the draft flls to them. They could go Marshawn Lynch as well, but after losing Fletcher and Spikes, they need a guy that can step right in.
13. St. Louis Rams: Lawrence Timmons LB, Florida State Will Witherspoon is a decent LB, as is Pisa Tinasamoa. But the Rams still need a legit playmaker in their LB corp
14. Carolina Panthers: Levi Brown OT, Penn State Jordan Gross is a RT, Travell Whorton is a solid player, but is better at guard than OT. Could go a couple different ways, but a team that needs to run needs to have a good line.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Derrelle Revis CB, Pittsburgh Ike Taylor,Deshae Townsend, and Bryant McFadden are all nice players, but they're not playmakers. Mike Tomlin makes a splash by drafting the local product.
16. Green Bay Packers: Marshawn Lynch RB, Cal Ahman Green is gone, leavin Green Bay Vernan Morency and Noah Herron. They need a RB.
17. Jacksonville Jaguars: Reggie Nelson S, Florida I wold'vesaid Tedd Ginn, but the Jags signed Dennis Northcutt. with Deon Grant leaving, the Jags could use a new FS.
18. Cincinnati Bengals Paul Pozlusney LB, Penn State Maybe a little too high for Poz, but the Bengals do need LBs. Also, the Bengals have made it ther top priority to get good character guys. Poz is a model citizen and is a leader.
19. Tennessee Titans: Robert Meachum WR, Tennessee Vince Young needs a go to guy. Meachum gets the nod over Ginn mainly because A)he can be the go-to guy right away B)He's a local boy.
20. New York Giants: Chris Houston CB, Arkansas Despite outrageous workout numbers, Houston hasn't seen his stock rise like Boomer and I have said he would. Even so, the G-Men are in love with him.
21. Denver Broncos: Joe Staley OT, Central Michigan Staley seems like a perfect fit for the Zone Blocking Scheme right now. George Foster was a disaster at RT in Denver and got benched for Adam Meadows (who was out of football for 2 years) Staley could start right away at and eventually move to LT.
22. Dallas Cowboys: Ted Ginn Jr WR, Ohio State After FA, allas has very few glaring weaknesses. They do need depth at WR though. This is the perfect situation for Ginn; he can learn behind two very good WRs and just focus on returning as a rookie.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Dwayne Bowe WR, LSU Jared Allen's stupidity might force the Chiefs to seriously consider drafting a DE. The Chiefs do not have a number one WR. They address that need right now
24. New England Patriots (from Seattle): Jarvis Moss DE/OLB, Florida Why Moss? Best Player Available. Vrabel and Colvin are getting older, and they really don't have much youth at OLB.
25. New York Jets: Greg Olsen TE, Miami FL Even with his great workouts, Olsen is a TE. If he does not go to Carolina at 14, he will fall. The Jets will gladly pick him up though.
26. Philadelphia Eagles: Jamaal Anderson DE, Arkansas For the first timein years, Philly is actually concern about their D-Line depth. Javon Kearse is a walking injury in recent years, Darren Howard is solid but not special, and Trent Cole is a pass rusher only. Anderson has seen his stock fall because he hasn't worked out as good as hoped and is very raw,butPhilly will develop him.
27. New Orleans Saints: Jon Beason LB, Miami FL The Saints have two glaring weaknesses; CB and LB. With no CB worth taking right now, the Saints take a youn LB.
28. New England Patriots: Brian Leonard Utility-back, Rutgers I call Leonard a Utility-back because he can do it all; run,block,catch, you name it. He's too small to be strictly a FB, but he'd bea good compliment to Maroney, and could also do Patrick Pass' job of catching out of the backfield.
29. Baltimore Ravens: Dwayne Jarrett WR, USC Why Jarrett, especially with Derrick Mason,Mark Clayton, and Demetrius Williams? The Ravens don't have many weaknesses. They do however lack a red zone threat at WR. Mason and Clayton are not very tall, and Williams is not really a red zone threat. At 6'5, Jarrett can take the pressure off of Todd Heap inside the 20.
30. San Diego Chargers: Michael Griffen S, Texas The Chargers' biggest weakness is thelack of playmakers in their secondary, namely at both saftey positions. Morlon McCree is solid, but Terrence Kiel has regressed each of the past couple years.
31. Chicago Bears: Ben Grubbs G, Auburn Aside from Olin Kruetz and John Tait, the Bears OL is not very impressive, nor are any of the 5 very young or athletic. Grubbs might sit on the bench his first year though he could beat out Garza), he adds athleticism and youth to a unit that sorely needs it.
32. Indianapolis Colts: Justin Harrell DT, Tennessee Monte Reagor is gone, Corey Simon looks to be on his way out, and Darrell Reid is in trouble wih the law. That eaves Booger McFarland as the lone "reliable" DT in Indy. Harrell is the best DT available.
Rest of Miami's Draft
2a.Ryan Khalil C, USC This is probably more unlikely than us getting Quinn, but looking at who drafts before us, I feel that it's getting more likely that Khalil could be availabe when we pick. If he is, this allows Hadnot to move back to guard.
2b.Josh Wilson CB, Maryland The little guy is tough. To me, it came down to Wilson and Fred Bennett. Wilson gets the nod due to the ability to return kicks.
3.Jason Hill WR, Washington State You all want a WR. Hill has a lot of talent and speed. Best yet, he doesn't take the slot away from CC.
4.Kevin Boss TE, Western Oregon A small school prospect, but a good prospect. At 6'6 252 lbs, he'd give whoever our QB is a nice target
6a.Jon Abbate MLB, Wake Forrest Some might question why Abbate is this low. He's only 5'9, and also ran a sub 5 40. It's debatable whether or not he'll last this long, but he's got an up hill battle. He is a Zach Thomas clone though.
6b.Justin Hickman DE, UCLA Yung pass rusher to develop behind JT to play alongside Roth in the future.
7a.Andrew Carnahan OT, Arizona State Big tackle for Houck to develop.
7b.Daren Stone S, Maine Interesting prospect. Would be a lot higher if not for the fact he went to Maine.
Not my best mock ever, but I think it's fairly realistic. (Civil) critisism is welcome
