Let's see if they can stay healthy, and what Weaver can do with them. I think the pass rush will be critical this year, because I am not sure what we will have in the secondary, and our linebackers never seem to be great in coverage either. Side note Greg Rousseau just bagged a nice deal from the Bills. Both Jaelan Phillips and the Dolphins have to be looking at that as a baseline:

Maybe comparable contracts... but I dont see it, Rousseau has been much more healthy
I guess it depends on the year Phillips has. And remember who he is negotiating against! Anyway, wasn't my main point, I just put it in there as a side note. More curious about how the pass rush looks this year. I could see it being pretty good. It better be, because I am not sure what we will have in the secondary, and our linebackers never seem to be able to cover.

I'd prefer Jaelen Phillips not play the first 10 games of the season, regardless of how close to 100% he is week 1.

The only goal for JP should be to be on the field week 18, thats the only way he's of any real value to the franchise next season. Its also the only way he's going to get anything other than near minimum on a one year deal next March.

I love the kid and I am happy he's got that guaranteed money locked up for this season.

I’m hopeful we’ll have a good to great edge rush, but worried based on Phillips and Chubbs injury history…and heck, our teams typical injury curse😥. D had very good yardage allowed stats, but we were 27th in both sacks and takeaways. In today’s NFL that won’t work. Edge rush clears up both, frequently.

we could be out of it by week 18

Strange to have this predetermined preference without knowing when he’s actually ready to go.

Hardly strange, I’m trying to ensure he plays week 18 and hopefully in the playoffs.

How much would you bet on him to healthy at the end of the season, if he started playing week 1?

JP15 will not get anywhere near GR's contract.

GR has been healthy and very productive in 66 games has 25 sacks, 66 QB hits, 47 TFL's, 182 tackles, 15 pass defensed, 6FF's, and 2 FR's.

JP15 has played 46 games, 23 sacks, 54 QB hits, 25 TFL's, 152 tackles, 7 pass defensed, 1 FF, 3 FR's, 1 INT

Not bad numbers at all for either player, but games missed is a big deal, especially when you consider an Achilles and ACL tear.

JP15 has tremendous work ethic and is dedicated to his craft and I hope for his sake he turns the corner on injuries and becomes a beast for us...but..those are concerning injuries for an explosive edge that needs to bend and explode.

If the Dolphins wait until week 18 to see Phillips then they might as well let him walk.
players play when healthy and ready to play. it is folly to hold him out if he is healthy, based on the assumption that the team is making the playoffs. it is unlikely that they make the playoffs, and even less likely if he isn't playing. if healthy, he should play, and you let the chips fall where they may. best chance of making the playoffs is to have your best players out there. this is like saying huntley should be the starter until week 14, and then roll tua out, so that way tua will be healthy for the playoffs. makes no sense. we might be 3-10 at that point, with zero chance at the playoffs.
