Very good read on the team. Sorry if already posted. Also has audio analysis linked within. Enjoy!

But these days? Consider some lyrics from Only Wanna Be With You by Hootie and the Blowfish and sung by longtime Miami fan Darius Rucker: "I'm such a baby, 'cause the Dolphins make me cry."

"The thing I want to get back to is having pride in being a Dolphins fan," Shula says. "For our fans, I want them to be proud of being Dolphins fans.

So the Dolphins again are mired in a quarterback mystery, one that has more or less continued since Marino retired.

Cameron deflects questions about Green and Culpepper to talk about …Cleo Lemon, the fourth-year pro from Arkansas State taking most of the offseason snaps.

"The story of the day," Cameron says after a minicamp practice, "was the play of Cleo Lemon."

Happy, happy, joy, joy.

And Green? Who really, really wants to play for you?

"You don't know," Cameron says. "Is every guy (New Orleans Saints quarterback) Drew Brees? I don't know."

Then there's John Beck, 25, a second-round draft pick out of Brigham Young and Miami's highest-drafted signal-caller since, you guessed it, Marino in 1983.

Despite Beck's presence as the possible quarterback of the near future, many fans voiced their displeasure to Cameron on draft day when Miami bypassed more heralded Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn with the ninth pick, opting instead for Ohio State wideout/kick returner Ted Ginn Jr., who's healing from a foot injury suffered in the BCS title game.

On other fronts, the Dolphins have hope for reasonable optimism. Defenders Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas continue to get it done. And most Dolphins fans probably are satisfied by up-and-coming Ronnie Brown at running back.

The way the old coach sees things, everything goes back to who will be taking the snaps.

Its a good situation to be in - because instead of being stuck with an average starter (like a AJ Feeley in '04), we have a chance to have Green, C-Pep, Beck or Lemon starting. That is a GOOD problem to have.

Lets just hope, the best guy wins the starting job, and at the end of the day, as long as we win - thats all that matters :-)

No it is not a good problem to have.

Cleo Lemon is unproven.
Trent Green played horrible last year after a concussion.
Culpepper is recovering from an injury (but looking to be fully healthy).

Not to compare and I know Beck has yet to take a snap. But was'nt stauback a 25 year old rookie? If our guy is even close, I'd be happy.

lets hope one of those guys can step it up and take the position....after marino we've been doomed

I think the Phins' success this season has as much to do with improvement along the offensive line as with the QB position. It won't matter who we have at QB if we can't run the ball consistently and protect the pocket.

Nothing new. Our fate's been determined by our QB status ever since Marino left. And now we may have added OL and CB to that list.

I totally agree..it won't matter who we line up if they have the same conditions as last year.

The good thing is that we don't have to be world beaters on offense. We simply have to be able to sustain drives, be efficient and put up some points. With the defense we have, we'll be tough to put up alot of points on. Our offense has been putting ALL the pressure on the defense. If we can turn that around to having an offense that doesn't turn the ball over, can move the chains with a good running attack and hit on some passes when we need to it will be a huge difference. I believe special teams, with Ted Ginn returning kicks, will give us better field position. I find myself hoping this deal with Trent Green gets done so that we have a field general type veteran to run things on offense. We are very young on the o-line but I believe they can come together and be quite good given some time to gel. Maybe Pete Kendall will fall our way to secure LG. Lorenzo Booker will help our team this year in a way that will be fun to watch. We have gotten much faster on offense. Imagine Ginn, Chambers and L. Booker on the field at the same time. There's some world class speed on the field. The reason to feel good about the offense is that we have a coach who is one of the best offensive minds in the NFL and he is quickly putting this offense together with what I believe will turn out to be a number of smart decisions. Just getting Mike Mularkey away from calling plays is huge. I think we'll be very happy if we are patient but this team is going in the right direction and before long Beck will be our QB and I can't wait to see him bring it against the hated Bills, Jets and Pats! Better days are coming!! Maybe this year it will be Daunte but if it is it will be a tightly coached and more diciplined Daunte than when he played for the Vikes. I thought Cleo played pretty good last year when given the chance so the QB battle should be interesting. Anyway, soon we will actually know who our starter will be on opening day.

Nice post!

It will take a little time for this team to gel. I am torn about the Trent Green situation. Does he give Miami the best chance to WIN??? Personally, I feel sorry for studs like Zach and Taylor because they have only won one playoff game since being on the squad. The good thing about having Cam is that it is not outside of the realm of possiblity to make a good run at the playoffs, considering the quick turnarounds of recent NFL teams with new coaches (Jets, Saints). I really thought Saban would be the missing piece of the puzzle. But now, I am beginning to think that maybe Miami is in a semi-rebuilding mode. It really sucks because I want to see JT and ZT get deep into the playoffs before they retire.....

Thanks Colmax, I really do believe Trent Green gives us the best chance to win but that trade could be coming apart. It will be very cool to go out to Davie and watch practice starting Friday because I want to see what DC looks like. Maybe he's close to 100% and then what do we do if he's looking sharp in Cams' offense? We gave up a two to get a great player and we've waited a long time to get something positive out of DC. Maybe the wait is over. I'll know more after the weekend. I'll post what he's looking like out there.

Agreed.

There's nothing enlightening about the writers observation.

Our QB status has been THE problem for this franchise since Dan.
Our OL became another huge problem during Wanny's neglect.

We are still waiting to solve those 2 positions problems years later.

With recent drafts hopefully we've found the answers at both positions.

Yep, and it's a shame Wanny was never as enlightened by this fact. He made a token gesture to sign former Pro Bowler Brian Griese then cut him so they could keep Jay and trade a 2nd rounder for AJ Feeley while Griese performed better at Tampa. And for a former offensive tackle, he sure didn't know anything about an OL. I just hope CB doesn't end up becoming another weak spot as we haven't had anyone on our roster near Surtain or Madison's level. And we had two good corners before those two in Vincent and Buckley. The rise of our CB's was key to our development as a defensive power. Of course, as a former CB in high school, I guess I'm a little biased towards CB production.
