GRADE: A

Miami Dolphins: Safely tucked away OT Jake Long as first overall choice last Tuesday. Should start on the left side for many years. DE Phillip Merling slipped into second round after a weak workout and sports hernia surgery but he should fit this 3-4 scheme on the left side, more because he can play the run than for his pass-rushing. Great value here, especially if Dolphins trade Jason Taylor. QB Chad Henne will be an immediate factor. Solid, solid board.
Only the Dolphins and Chiefs got an "A" grade from USA Today. Fox Sports gave us a "B" and the current fan vote at ESPN.com has us at an "A".

Good thing we're getting some recognition. I would give us a B+. We shouldn't have drafted so many RB's, but maybe Ronnie is injured(knock on wood), and that's why we drafted that many RB's

Every expert publication I've read has said that Henne was a great pick, and is our QB of the future, yet all the armchair GMs here say it's false.

I'm confused.

Yes, Ireland made clear Hilliard is a RB/FB.

Wait, Nub, that must be a typo, we didnt draft a WR!

For what its worth, the NFLN, specifically Casserly and Lombardi, loved our draft. Lombardi called Kendall Langford his second day impact defensive player, and a "perfect Parcells guy". Also predicted Henne would be out starting QB at this time next year, and that the Jets (ha) would regret passing on him. Casserly thought Merling was excellent value.

Well let me "unconfuse" you then . . . .

They have to cover 32 teams . . . we only need to cover one.

They for the most part look at highlights . . . and make assumptions off of them. Now I'm not saying that we know more than the experts . . . because maybe Henne is the guy . . . but don't take too much stock into what an analyst who has to cover 32 other teams and over 1000 prospects has to say. Many want to look good because the guy matched up properly with their mock . . . and wanna make a case for a guy starting.

Beck was never given a fair chance . . . and has a nice head start on Henne . . . its his job to lose . . . and Beck has been a BEAST this offseason . . . I think if he does lose the job . . . Henne or McCown really would have earned it . . . nothing will be given to anybody tho.

In the lockerroom every day . . . throwing alot of balls . . .learning the plays . . . nothing but positive things comming out of Davie about John Beck and his offseason.

Kid is a hard worker, he is very determined . . . he has put on some muscle weight

We drafted 1 RB and 1 FB

from the sounds of it, Hilliard will be our Nick Goings (a player that had a lot of success in Carolina with Hennig as his OC).

Hilliard probably wouldn't start (when all is said and done it will probably be Boomer Grigsby), but he'll get time because he's a tough runner and he can catch the ball. Which is why I think he makes the team, neither Mauia nor Grigsby adds much other than blocking to the offense.

And I know special teams has become a curse word on this board this offseason, but Jeff mentioned one of the reasons Booker isnt here anymore is that he had no ST value. Thats really important for a third RB. Parmele and Hilliard provide options there.

I wasn't sure about a few picks, but, I have a good bud that HATES the Dolphins and, it hurt him to say that we had one of the best drafts out of all the teams.

He's a good judge of drafts, so, that's positive.

I explained that to somebody in the chat earlier that thought he would be exciting with Ginn on returns . . .

Booker struggled MIGHTLY in just even catching the ball on returns in camp . . . that indeed may be the BIGGEST reason . . . along w/ his inability to block effectively. . . why he got released.

He is a situational back only . . . and tho I loved his ability as a WR out of the backfield . . . Ronnie can do that . . . and so can Ricky . . . if he has no ST value . . . he doesn't belong on the team
