After publicly sticking his foot in his mouth, it's no wonder Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga didn't want to talk to the media while attending an evening training camp practice August 4.

One week earlier, rookie free safety Jason Allen began a training camp holdout that Huizenga had promised wouldn't happen. Hoping to avoid another lengthy rookie holdout like in 2005 with running back Ronnie Brown, Huizenga said in March that he was going to "personally insist" on having the team's first-round pick in camp on time.

Huizenga wasn't goaded into making such a statement either, as it was part of his opening remarks while meeting with members of the Dolphins media corps.

so what, he wanted the guy in camp, was a bit emphatic about it and it didnt happen because he still has to be a good business man. I am ok with it.

things change.. for example the players agreement, etc. All water under the bridge!!

Maybe Wayne is getting Alzheimers? He needs to follow through with actions and stop letting his mouth run and not back up what he says.

Agree. I don't like the..."im gonna, i shoulda, i coulda" crowd

Got to have two to tango...

I agree. This whole thing about who is at fault is really becoming tired.

The article states that he promised that we wouldn't have any holdouts and then the article quotes him as saying he will "personally insist". There is a difference between promised and personally insist. I think the USA today is reaching.

As for Wayne Huizenga, I am glad that he is the owner of the 'Phins. I feel that he is one of the best owners in the business.

I would take Wayne H. over many, many owners in this league. Would some folks here on this forum would want anything resembling Mike Brown, the Fords, John York, Tom Benson, the Bidwells, Ralph Wilson, or Ziggy up in Minnesota (yeah he is a new owner so far he has seemed to be a very bad one) owning this organization? And, yes he and his organization are doing their best efforts in getting Allen in camp but, not to set a bad precedent of being push overs at the bargaining table.

Organizations who offer and promise too much end up in salary cap h&*((. Except of course the Niners organization in the 90's when it was run by Eddie D and Carmen policy who cheated the salary cap and stole their way to keep their dynasty in place. But, everyone else will suffer if they don't make smart decisions regarding negotiating with their first round draft picks.

No matter what the hell is going on with Allen, I'm glad that Wayne is the owner!

His desire to have and chase after Nick Saban showed me that he's very serious about having the Lombardi Trophy in his trophy case!

Not one person in here was praising Huizenga when he would not fire Wannstedt, giving him a contract even?

I'm glad we went after Saban, but do you all remember it was Huizenga trying to convince Davey not to quit?

Of corse he wanted Wanny back. Do you remember who was available that year? Butch Davis... Trying to talk Jimmy Johnson out of retirement... Or aggresivly going for Saban... It was tough to get him and Huizenga wanted to go the sure rout with a guy who was coaching already in Wannsted... With that said, I'm glad he didnt and went for Saban.

Or promoting someone in-house, like Jim Bates, who was half-decent as a fill-in and hands down better then Wannstedt. If we had a serviceable coach and no alternatives, then yes let's try and keep him. But Wannstedt is the epitome of a bad coach, but of course we try and keep him because we have to aggressively go after another coach? Well why ever aggressively go for anyone then? Why not just keep the status quo forever?

My point was, that everyone seems to praising Huizenga, while nobody was doing that before he hired Saban. Would they be praising Huizenga if he got what he wanted, which was Wannstedt at the helm? The answer shouldn't change just because he didn't get what he wanted.

Of corse he wanted Wanny back
