Wow thats kinda off between those times but 33 rep's he could hold his own run blocking and the man a catch the ball well.

Jermichael Finley is someone you guys should keep your eye on...He has the best hands and athleticism out of this class and is younger then all of the tight ends...Only area he lacks is run blocking, take a few minutes and tell me he wont impress you:

He is going to make a qb's job alot easier having him as a security blanket, notice the way he catches everything with his hands away from his body and can run after the catch.

Just another option to think about at TE who should be available with your early 4th, I just think he has alot more to offer then guys like Davis, as Finley ran a 4.6 on his pro day...Non-bias aside, I think he's got everything it takes to turn into something special.

The Dolphins already have three T.E.'s...I doubt they will use a pick in this years draft...but you never can say never.

ya but they all suck, and the tuna loves him some TE.
Agreed, i wouldnt go TE too early because we have some much more important needs that need to be addressed first.

No need to tell me, I'm a huge fan of Jermichael Finley. I think he's fantastic. I have Finley and Carlson as my top two tight ends. I know everyone else has them quite low on thier lists, but to me, these two guys are by far the most natural pluck catchers out there. They're great red zone guys and 3rd down guys. I think Carlson is absolutely the best catcher--he's phenomenal at catching in traffic--and is going to be a TD machine in the NFL. Jermichael Finley is quite possibly better because he has true deep speed, superior athleticism and almost as good height/reach as Carlson. Both have nice long arms and incredibly soft hands.

The problems for these guys aren't on the football field, they're on the track field. Carlson has average speed, but his game doesn't really revolve around his speed whatsoever, nor does it need to do so. Finley didn't time well, but just watch his film and you'll see he has legitimate deep speed. If any 1 TE in this draft becomes the next Antonio Gates, I'm convinced it'll be Jermichael Finley. I think one of those guys will be available in the 3rd round, and maybe Finley even slips to the 4th, but if we grab either guy with either of those picks, we'll be getting a steal.

People sometimes get carried away with 40 times. People seldom run 40 yards to make a difference in the NFL, and on the field with pads and a helmet on, not everyone's speed translates directly to their sprint time in spandex. Watching Finley play, he's fast, it's that simple. He may not have the quick burst out of the box someone like Dustin Keller or Kellen Davis have, but for a TE it's not really that important to be honest. TE's want quickness to cause separation, and a top gear to threaten deep down the middle, anything else is just for show. Finley has that top gear deep speed, it just takes him a little longer to reach top gear. He has enough quickness to get open. Both Carlson and Finely do a good job of using their body to get to the ball, and in Carlson's case, he's great at shielding the defender off with his body.

I honestly hope neither of those guys puts up a good 40 time, because if they're available in rounds 3 or 4, we're going to be getting a potential pro-bowl TE and whichever not-ready-for-prime-time QB we put on the field will be very happy to have either Finley or Carlson.

And I disagree with Pete on this one. I'll be shocked if the Dolphins don't draft a TE. I expect one in round 3 or 4.

this guy is like a big wide reciver i can't think of one tight end in the nfl that moves that well. the guy has first round talent.

Great post, your spot on about Carlson too, he has alot of Witten in him in that he's very natural catching the ball...And guys like them their 40 times shouldnt be overprocessed, when your like Finley at his size with his long arms, he is going to be a 1st down machine and if he faces someone faster his size will win that advantage, I can see plenty of jump ball opportunities for him in the endzone as well...

Also as someone pointed out Parcells loves the 2-TE set, as he took Fasano very early in our draft with intentions of making mis-matches with the dual TE look, wouldnt be surprised to see him use that now...Finley is slipping down some people's rankings because of his combine 40 but he's a legit 4.6 guy, and provides alot more upside then a guy like Bennett or Davis who will be taken alot earlier...Finley looks to be about a mid 3rd rd at best and late 4th at worst, Carlson is a guy who performed overall pretty well at the combines and could see him gone in the 2nd rd.

Ive just always felt Finley will be something special, he's going to have a Gates like impact as a receiver for someone, and his best football is still ahead of him with him being so young, the way he moves for a TE, how he runs his routes and catches you wont find in another TE this draft.

It been documented that the Fins took interest to Finley at the Combine, as well as at the Horns Pro day. We have also shown interest in Cottam and Bennet (A&M)

I think its likely we do in fact go TE in the late second or 3rd round, we coule use one of those big play big bodies for sure

I personall like Finley as well, watched him get under utilized for the last 2 years at Texas, very explosive

I definitely wouldn't mind Davis if he slips to our 3rd round pick . . . he really is a complete TE . . . so is Bennett, except Bennett is more RAW in the pass game. Either one would be fine with me.

Parcells did draft Fasano even with Witten

Parcells didn't have as bad a team to rebuild as the Dolphins...I'm not saying that TE won't be looked at...just not in this draft...and surely not early. By the way..I was wrong...the Dolphins have 4 TE's on the roster...not 3.

Dozens of NFL scouts converged on USC today for the school's pro day, an opportunity for draft prospects to showcase their skills. It was a big day for linebacker Keith Rivers, a potential top-10 pick who was particularly impressive in the vertical leap and 40-yard dash. He ran the 40 in an announced 4.51 seconds -- although the results of scouts varied -- and actually reached higher than the top end of the vertical-leap pole. His leap was measured at a remarkable 42 1/2 inches. Defensive end Lawrence Jackson increased his vertical leap by 3 1/2 inches from his 31-inch effort at the scouting combine. He is among five Trojans who realistically could be picked in the first round, along with Rivers, defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, tackle Sam Baker, and tight end Fred Davis. Scouts from the Pats and Miami Dolphins put Jackson through linebacker drills, seeing him as a possible fit in their 3-4 schemes. "I'd love to be taken in the first round, obviously," Jackson said. "But being drafted in the first round doesn't say you're going to be a great football player. I just want to make sure I play for a long time at a high level, regardless of what round." - Sam Farmer, Los Angeles Times
