with the exception of the Raiders. Someone is going to drop to us who we didn't think would. We pick up another tackle in fa and we wouldn't be as pressed to sign a tackle with that 1st pick. I like the Fox signing because he could fill the LT spot in a pinch. But there is the Webb kid from Minn and Levi Brown out there that we should be looking at. All and all I like what Hickey is doing and have optimism he will carry this through in the draft.

Even without signing another free agent lineman, I don't think it is set in stone that Miami needs to use a 1st round pick on one. Odds likely favor it, but they very well could wait until the second round depending on who is available. But they have to draft at least one lineman within the 1st and 2nd round.

My thinking is there are RT fa out there, which can be had prior to or after the draft, that will give the fins the option of taking BPA into the 3rd or 4th round. However, I am not a scout and feel pretty good about Beaton being onboard to make those assessments.

Gabe Jackson, Jack Mewhort, Morgan Moses, Billy Turner would and could all be available in the second when it comes our turn to pick. All four would more than likely be a starter on our line. If Martin isn't there at 19, I wouldn't reach for any of these, but I would trade back and grab an extra second, maybe take XSF late in the 1st, Borland in the second and one of these 4 with our extra 2nd pick. Sounds simple doesn't it.

Does not fit a zone-scheme.

6'4 340 LBS eh.

there are always the same two schools of thought when it comes to drafting; taking the safe pick that fills a need or going for the BPA. Miami has done both in recent years and had mixed results. in 2008 we filled a need and took the safe route taking Jake Long over Matt Ryan. Jake played at an All-Pro level for 3 years until injuries got the best of him, while he was above average he was not the dominant player he was early in his career. then last year we took a great deal from Oakland trading up to #3 where we could have played it safe and taken Lane Johnson. instead Ireland took the BPA in Dion Jordan. while i have no doubt that he will be a great player he had little impact last year while recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in college and Miami's offensive line was the worst in franchise history. the decision to take Jordan cost Ireland his job in the end.

in my opinion Miami has done a stellar job in free agency this year but our biggest issues are still at RT and G. while i don't think they should reach for a OT at #19 if a player at the position worthy of going at the spot is available you have to take him even if that means passing on someone that is rated slightly higher at that spot. this is too important of a season for our coaching staff, GM, and especially our young franchise QB to risk going into training camp with a weak right side of the line again. i think this year drafting on need (within reason) is the only option.

No expert here, but from this list, I like Mewhort - in round 2 - the best because he plays with intensity and I believe, from what I have read, he can handle RT. I am concerned that Moses might be a big stiff who needs constant motivation to stay in shape, etc.. After John Jerry, I have had enough of those type of guys.

Moses is gone in Round One.
I am not so sure. I do not think he gets to our 2nd rd pick, but I am seeing very late 1st or early 2nd.

I think if Miami can get one of the top 4 tackles that has to be the pick......Robinson, Matthews, Lewan or Zach Martin then draft Chris Borland in round 2 and a guard in round 3. If they are all gone they should go to plan B and consider Mosely, Mike Evans or Ebron or one of the top corners if they slip.....If they are all gone I would try to trade down if possible.....if not BPA.

They might be thinking trade down from the get go in this deep draft.

I am more worried about the G position. It seems to me most of the damaging pressure has come up the middle, and this has been a problem for years. If we can get a "bell cow" sort of player to hold and anchor the middle with Pouncy (or 2) and open holes there, IMHO that will set this team up for years of success. It used to be the old wisdom said "you build from the inside out, be strong up the middle" as a key for success.

I think we are going to focus more on guard than tackle earlier on.

MArtin can play tackle or guard and start. Mosely can start at MLB. Two good value picks in first round.
