People keep saying that Miami wont get enough value to trade the #1 pick this year. They have a points rating system for what each pick is worth. IMO that system is B.S. The #1 pick should be worth more or less depending on the players available. If there is no clear #1 pick in the draft, like this year. Shouldnt the pick actually be worth less then years when there is a clear cut favorite to be the #1 pick?

It is worthless. Haven't you followed any of the Dallas trade threads?

It's worth alot less than it used to be, because of the financial obligations that go along with the #1 pick.
The league and the union really need to come up with a better slotting system for what draft picks are going to be paid. Jamarcus Russell got more guaranteed money than Dwight Freeney and Marc Bulger for crying out loud.

I agree with the thread starter that the #1 pick isn't a static value, it's dynamic based on how good the top players in the draft are, and how deep the draft is overall.

Maybe, but I wouldn't take half the value that a lot of people seem fine doing. If we don't get reasonable value, I can think of worse things than taking Long, Dorsey, Ryan, (fill in your favorite guy) at number 1.

i agree with you shag. Unless we get a good trade, I would take C Long :winkwink:

so you say us getting #22, #28 in the first and #60 in the 2nd and barber isnt worth getting for the #1 pick...just beacuse the value chart...wow. i would take this in a heartbeat. there is great talent in the late first round and 2nd round plus you dont have the money invested in the #1 pick. the only thing we lose in this trade is some stupid value points which means nothing to anyone. we could fill alot of hole with those picks like...OT, CB, DT, DE...look at what our starting lineup could be if we made this trade...its listed in my signature. pretty good lineup to me!

we have to tak ethe trade if it goes through, not to mention that chad johnson is rumored to want to come to miami. you put him in the lineup (probably would take out james hardy due to the fact that one of our 2nds would be gone and wouldnt need a WR that high)

I have to agree with zach, dallas offering all of that is not dumb on our part but its on dallas.

I certainly didn't say that as that trade was not mentioned in this argument. I think you did meant that we'd get both Dallas 1's (you said 22 twice). Personally, I don't know why we want Barber although he is a nice player. However, it is our strongest position. Only reason he is part of the trade is obviously the Cowboys would want to replace Barber with McFadden. I'd prefer we get Spears, Carpenter (both the Cowboys seem to want to part with) and other defensive help over Barber. If we are worried about Ronnie being healthy than it may be a reasonable trade, just not my ideal given the state of our defense.

Julius Jones is in the last year of his contract. Marion Barber is a young stud for them. Even if they pick up McFadden somehow no way do they get rid of Barber. They're more likely to cut or trade Jones I think and use Barber and McFadden to beat people til they cry for mercy. That's what i would do anyway.

Exactly. The cowboys would be crazy to get rid of Barber III and I don't believe it it for a second, despite all the trade rumors pasted on this board. If the cowboys move up it won't be w/ the dolphins.

Great point Lenny. All of this draft chart stuff- it defies logic to think that every year the values will be the same.
