Vernon Carey Retires

after he got that big money contract it was pretty much downhill from that point forward...he seemed to get a little larger every year also...

A good tackle who you always felt should have been great if he'd worked harder and kept the weight off. People will always wonder what if we'd picked Vince Wilfork instead.

Wasn't a fan of Big Vern, but I wish him all the best in his future endevours.

Or you ever thought maybe teams did want him but Carey wasn't willing to uproot his family for the vet minimum and rather pursue a coaching career?

Nope, must be cause no one wanted him.

From what I read, the guy was never as strong as people wanted him to be; wasn't enough of a 'mauler'.

The good news is that he probably won't have brain issues and probably won't shoot himself.

It most likely is that nobody wanted the guy. He was absolutely terrible in 2011 and was pretty bad in 2010. As already stated, once he got that extended contract he was pretty much gaining weight all the time. Not only that, but injuries kinda killed him.

He was a solid linemen for us for 6 years, which isn't too bad, but by no means great.

I wish him well, but I think he was a chronically overrated lineman. We got suckered into trading up and reaching for him, he got shuffled around the line, and IMO, was never anything more than serviceable (making him look like an all-pro next to the crappy linemen he was next to for most of his time here). I won't miss him, hopefully Martin will make us all forget him this year.
