Any news on Carey? Did he have a good minicamp? Will he live upto his first round billing? Will he start as RG or RT?

Right now he's penciled in as the starter at RT... His main Competition for the job will be from D-mac and maybe Mike Pearson. If he is bumped it is very possible that he could be switched to RG... (especially now that Hadnot may play center) Most have pointed to his slow feet when saying this. And though he was horrid at that position in 2004, there is much thought that he could turn out well there. As to his playing at RT lets say it's been average. HH did say it would take 2 years to fully integrate his system so hopefully we will see even more improvement this year...

If he can't secure the RT position by now, which is reallyt what he was drafted for, then you have to consider him a bust. We didn't draft him in the first round to play RG. (I won't even factor in the 4th we gave to move up 1 SPOT to take him; that was a bonehead Spielstatd move). We'd have liked him to step up and take over LT, but RT was probably the realistic expectation. But if he's not our starting RT in his 3rd year, what else do you call him but a bust?

You can call him our starting RG

The truth is, Vernon Carey has not lived up to his potential OVERALL so far, but with Houck's teaching he really started to come on last year.

That was evident. He was a huge part of the improvement of the o-line, and I expect him to pick up where he left off from last year.

Pearson was promised the RT slot when he signed

No he wasnt.

You are thinking of Bennie Anderson, who was told he was likely to start at RG. If he was promised that, he's got to be pretty pissed, because he's like the 4th or 5th string tackle right now.

No he wasn't.

He isn't competing for a starting spot. He is only competing for a backup spot with McIntosh.

That is an absolutely ridiculous (and uninformed) statement. It all depends on who he is competing against. I don't think you can call an O-lineman a bust in his 3rd yr unless he is completely clueless (Billy Milner comes to mind).
If there is a surprise player who plays unbelievably and beats out Carey that would not make Carey a bust.
Many O-lineman start to become dominant in their mid to late 20's.
Now if he's completely useless and out of shape, then I would agree you could call him a bust.

Shawn Andrews was drafted ahead of Carey by Philly. Philly traded up to get him and gave up more than we did. He has settled in nicely as their starting RG. Nobody is calling his a bust. There were guards drafted in the first round in each of the last three drafts.

Fin fans are way too critical.
