maybe i missed the poll or just havent recognized the concensus. but does he get at least another year on the left? imo. i think he should. word is he did real well. so i say we hold off in the draft. but we should get otah, richardson, cherilus somebody to put on the right. besides. i heard otah is a left tackle in college. if thats true we draft him. let carey stay left. otah goes right. best case. we got dominant bookends. worst case. we got 2 tackles who can play both sides. imagine the confusion, coordinators would feel if we start switching them up. thoughts or opinions please.

Vernon Carey was very solid last year. He will never be one of the best 5 at LT, but aquiring a LT tackle is not a priority this year. If we cannot try to trade down, then we should pick the best player from the following list (Chris Long, Jake Long, Glen Dorsey, and SedricK Ellis). Always go for talent that has a high chance of succeeding and a good chance of a long career (that is why Ryan and McFadden).

i dont think left tackle is priority either. but i think upgrading the right side is or should be. cause alibi just hasnt done anything. plus my 5 year old could push him back into the pocket. my 2 year old could do a spin move right past shelton as well. so i feel right side should be addressed, this draft.

i just mentioned in another thread stuff on this. basically my thoughts are i like Carey a lot... he did very well. Alibi basically hasn't shown us anything good to make us believe we can rely on him. and mike rosenthals though a great team blocker, will get burned by speed rushers and isnt overly athletic.

we need to get another tackle!!! and if i may mention again... i want to sign Rex Hadnot back!!!

you want Hadnot back, and that's fine....but as i understand it,and i could be wrong, but Hadnot's wanting a 6 year 36 million dollar deal guranteed money.....is this correct or not? and if so,do you think he's worth that? my bro who started this Vernon Carey thread doesn't feel he's worth it.....what do any of you think?

i dont follow contracts all that much, so i dont know what exactly Hadnot is looking for. but 6 years would be nice, and i do want him back, possibly not for that much though.

Carey though I do like. I think he did a solid job, basically showing a lot of improvements in the passing game as well as running game. Hopefully throughout another off season and throughout this coming season he can improve more. once again, i thought he did a very solid job.

I want Cherilus but i dont know were we can get him in the Draft i dont know how far he will fall i hope he falls to our 2b pick

i like Cherilus... but does he have the will to work hard? he didnt have a great senior year, and was also troubled with assault charges off the field. otherwise i love the package of a tackle he brings

Carey should be either a right tackle or a guard unless he drops about 30 pounds so he has more quickness and stamina for the left tackle position. And Carey does NOT weigh 335 pounds either. He came to camp at 358 pounds last season. He'd be a lot better player if he weighed no more then 320.

hasn't he always been a weight issue since colelge and all.... i think i remember that coming up before in the past

We do need a left tackle, so we can move Carey back to right tackle. Personally, I think defense is a higher priority, but if the opportunity comes up to steal a good left tackle with a minor opportunity cost then go for it.

Carey will never be a good LT...he doesn't have the "feet" or the "range" you need to have to be a good LT. He just doesn't have the natural God given gifts for a LT. But I think he does make a very solid RT.
With that said we really haven't had a good LT since Richmond....good ones aren't that easy to come by.

He will never be one of the best 5 at LT, but aquiring a LT tackle is not a priority this year

That's exactly why acquiring a left tackle is a priority this year. If you don't have a great one, go get one. Just take a look at Cleveland and how one great LT (Joe Thomas) elevates the play of the whole offense. The Browns were a bottom feeder in almost every offense category in 2006. In comes Thomas and - to a lesser degree - Steinbach and suddenly they are in the top ten almost everywhere. Heck, they even made a gunslinger like Derek Anderson look like a Pro Bowler.

LT is easily one of the two most crucial positions on a football team. Take into account that Carey makes for a Pro Bowl RT as well and you see why acquiring a great LT should be a top priority for us. Take a look at Flozell Adams in FA or target Williams or Nicks with the 32nd pick and move Carey back to RT. Voila: great line. Especially if you want to groom a young QB.

so i feel right side should be addressed, this draft.

We already have a great RT in Carey. Why let the guy play a position he's only mediocre at when he could play another on a Pro Bowl level? Plus, it's one of the best OT classes in years, so there's not a whole lot of sense in drafting a right tackle when you could easily target a good LT and fix two positions with one pick.

You guys need to go look at Carey's stats in FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS. Not a top 5 LT?? Where did that come from. The guy can play LT or RT and is great at both. He is without a doubt our best run blocker. Ronnie was getting close to 6 yards per before he went down. Oh and Ronnie was only 4.5 behind anyone else (Satele). Of the 6 Tackles going to the Pro Bowl his stats are better than 4 of them. And he's only ok? I don't think so, not by a long shot!! And he gives up just 3 sacks all year!!

And he gives up just 3 sacks all year!!

Stats are seriously flawed when it comes to the offensive line. Do they tell you how many hurries he caused? Or to put it differently: Would you rather take a LT that gives up 3 sacks and 20 hurries or one that gives up 8 sacks and only 5 hurries?

Why do you think the Dolphins never went deep? They had the plays called but there just never was any time for the QB to throw them because the pocket collapsed to early. That wasn't only Carey's fault of course (he was pretty solid after all), but he's nowhere near the likes of Joe Thomas.
