The more I think about Carey the more I realize how much we need to keep him on our roster. Whether he stay at tackle or be moved to guard doesnt really matter much to me, I just really think that we need to find some consistency on the line if we are going to be able to excel on offense next season. Does anyone know how close or far we are to signing him? Him and Yeremiah Bell and yes Crowder all need to be resigned. But this post isnt about Crowder so dont start. Carey needs to stay.

Yeah, I think everybody feels the same way. Crowder should be resigned, but not to the money he is demanding...not to try and turn this into a CC thread.

Carey is a true Dolphin. He's loved them since he was a kid, and now he is getting a chance to play for his beloved team.

Put yourself in his shoes for a second. Since he has come into the league, Miami has gone 4-12, 9-7 (but started 2-7), 6-10, 1-15. That's a rough career. He has battled through that, can play either side, has the size to maybe go to guard...He had a rough year in 08, but he is one of our better players, and I think can be one of the better RTs in the NFL.

He is THE one guy that MUST be resigned.

Bell and Carey both need to be signed equaly they mean so much to this team, and they take a big step back if they are lost.
 
Bell should be resigned, but I don't think that it would be detrimental to the team if he wasn't. We cannot afford to take another step backwards along the line. It is very hard to find a man Carey's size that can pass protect effectively.

Is there a way to write into Carey's contract that he would receive bonuses for every game he started as a tackle or if he started x games as a tackle during a season he would get a bonus?

There's always a bonus for that.
 
If we could get one of the top LT prospects in this years draft and Move Carey to LG beside Long I think he would be a Pro Bowler at LG. I dont think he had a great year at RT. He will be ok there but we could get better use out of him at G. I think if he stays we need to take Duke Robinson in the draft to put next to Long. Carey is worth keeping if he doesnt want starting LT money. He is a RT and is not worth LT Money. He does not desereve Jake Long money. From what I can tell Satele is making 580,000 a year and SMiley is gettin 2.7 a year and Carey is gettin 3.07 a year. The 3.07 hes gettin is about what he needs to be paid. I just think another team comes in and wants him to play LT and pays him like one. And then He will not be a Dolphin. He is not so great that he cant be replaced. MArk Tausher from GB would fill in nicely and will be half the price. Marvel Smith can play RT and could be less money. Dont get me wrong I like Carey just not for big money.
 
Leonard Davis made the transition pretty smoothly. A guard also has to be able to be shifty, and can go out and pull and also block down the field. Can Carey do that is the question??

We would then be able to move Smiley to his more natural spot of RG, and now we have a hell of a O-line if we can grab a good RT.

I think we're better off signing Carey, and getting some depth in the draft, or maybe getting Brown in FA, and move Satele to RG.

the guy is an excellent right tackle

Yah I agree that he isnt amazing, but there is always something to be said about keeping the o-line together to keep it consistent. I guess well find out.
