what is going on with VC these days does he have a contract or is he a fa. i know he has slowed down a bit but i always liked him.would he be kept to compete or a job or to be a backup if we resign him because i think he is a fa?:ponder::ponder:

He's not been offered a contract by us or anybody. I'm pretty sure he doesn't meet the mold of the type of o-linemen Philbin is looking for. Too big and slow. He's been on the market for a while and as of yet nobody has offered him a contract that has been publicized. This surprises me a bit, and makes me think maybe hes injured. That said he was decent at best the last two years.
 
I'm pretty sure he is a free agent as well. I think some of these guys thought they were garner some attention elsewhere on the free agent market.

I don't even know how much he has left in the tank. but I do like him at guard bettter than at tackle I know that. Only problem is, I'm not sure he's capable of pulling much at this stage.
I do think he can be serviceable for another year or two though. I think we throw martin in the RT spot day one. that leaves us with two spots, both at guards for competition. not sure we will bring anybody else in at this point. adam gettis would have been nice, didnt' see him going rd 5 necessarily, who knows... I really wouldnt' have minded drafted konz and moving pouncey over to guard. I am thrilled with the martin pick though.
 
never really played like a 1st rounder and doesn't fit what the new coaching staff is trying to do anyway.

I asked Slimm during the draft about what guards he though fit our scheme, and he said he thought Derek Dennis out of Temple was an under the radar guy we should draft. He went undrafted, but we signed him as an UDFA. I hed never heard of him before, but it's not uncommon for undrafted o-lineman to contribute.
 
Old and slow has no place on the offensive line Philbin and Ireland are trying to build.
 
no chance we resign him with WCO in effect. To big, to slow. He will get picked up elsewhere tho

I agree. I'd welcome Vernon back- maybe try him at LG and let Incognito play his more natural RG. I mean honestly, Vernon would have looked a lot better last year if he wasn't always trying to pick up for Colombo's slack
 
I imagine big vern to be offered a contract by somebody when someone goes down in training camp somewhere. If not, thanks for the years Mr. Carey.
