Didn't see this posted, sorry if it was. Giving Steelers props for why they can still win Thursday. What do you think of his reasons?

FIVE REASONS WHY…

…the Pittsburgh Steelers could still win their Sept. 7 opener against Miami without Ben Roethlisberger:
  • Their defense will pose a tremendous challenge for Culpepper to solve and for Ronnie Brown to run through.
  • Running back Willie Parker and Pittsburgh's offensive line will be a formidable challenge for Miami's defense.
  • The coaching of Bill Cowher, and the rest of one of the best staffs in the NFL.
  • Charlie Batch is smart enough to find weaknesses to exploit in Miami's coverage and still has decent mobility.
  • A stoked-up, prime-time crowd in Heinz Field.

Their defense is good, but I believe we have the tools to solve it. Not that it will be easy but they still have to account for Brown, Chambers, Booker, McMicheal and Culpepper.

Hard to argue with those reasons. I still think the Fins will win though.

Sounds like Vic. C. is trying to justify picking the Steelers to win on Thursday.
  • Their defense will pose a tremendous challenge for Culpepper to solve and for Ronnie Brown to run through.
Response: Miami played against three of the top defenses in the preseason and was able to solve those defenses. Miami needs to pass early in the game to open up the run later in the game.
  • Running back Willie Parker and Pittsburgh's offensive line will be a formidable challenge for Miami's defense.
Response: Based on the preseason performance, Miami's run defense has improved over last year. Willie Parker may break a 30 yd run, but Miami should keep him in check for most of the game.
  • The coaching of Bill Cowher, and the rest of one of the best staffs in the NFL.
Response: Miami's has two of the better coordinators in the league. In fact, the Miami Offensive Coordinator knows Pittsburgh's offense as well as any other OC in the NFL. Miami may execute the Pittsburgh offense better than Pittsburgh on Thu.
  • Charlie Batch is smart enough to find weaknesses to exploit in Miami's coverage and still has decent mobility.
Response: Vic. C. is underestimating Miami's defensive improvements (Dline depth and secondary)which was shown in the preseason.
  • A stoked-up, prime-time crowd in Heinz Field.
Response: Home field advantage...best point he made.

They dont think we have one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL

I know it doesnt matter, but in the preseason I think we were 2nd against the run and 2nd on third downs...more chances for the Miami offense to figure out this Steelers D.

Batch was never a QB who could find weaknesses in a defense and exploit them. And our defense is pretty elaborate and uses alot of deception. Batch's biggest opportunity for success will be to move around and find a reciever deep on a broken play. He isn't going to pick us apart with vision and and ability to read a defense.

Other than that, I agree with your post. Miami is not heading to Pitt for an easy win. It will be a hard fought game. We will get a big play out of someone who isn't the popular pick. It won't be Chambers or Brown. It will be Booker or Welker. They will set us up with a big play that puts us into scoring position that will ulitmately decide the game. That's my take on it.

His Batch arguement is the weakest one of the 5. When he was that great of a QB to exploit the Dolphins complicated defense why isn't he starting somewhere in the NFL?

i forgot charlie batch was still in this league. you're telling me that this guy is gonna pick our secondary apart. if he wants to talk about good quarterbacking, he should talk about a certain dolphins quarterback who can not just pick apart a defense but obliterate it. no ben, no win. PERIOD.

I am not Vic so I am not as good a fortune teller as he is in predicting...so here I go...

Their defense will pose a tremendous challenge for Culpepper to solve and for Ronnie Brown to run through.
There should not be much of a tremendous challenge to solve this D. Capers, our D coach was the DC that started with B Cower when Bill took over the Steelers in 1992. The Steelers won a few division titles and had a few Probowlers on D while Capers was their DC (G. Loyd and Woodson). Capers is the master mind of the Blitzburg...

Running back Willie Parker and Pittsburgh's offensive line will be a formidable challenge for Miami's defense.
Miami was in the middle of the pack last year in run D, seems to have improved this Offseason. Also read the 1st answer to help explain why it should not be a challenge.

The coaching of Bill Cowher, and the rest of one of the best staffs in the NFL.
We have a great cast of coaches in our team. Also again Vic fails to mention that Capers was the catalyst of that now famed Blitzburg D, as well as he fails to mention Mullarkey, who was pivotal in winning seasons for that Pitt team a few years ago...

Charlie Batch is smart enough to find weaknesses to exploit in Miami's coverage and still has decent mobility.

Capers will have Batch in a tailspin before the night is over...

A stoked-up, prime-time crowd in Heinz Field.

This might be the only key in Pitts favor. The crowd noise should allow for our OL to make a few mistakes in penalties...
