BAD IDEAS

Ricky Williams re-joining the Miami Dolphins. Coach Nick Saban describes Williams as "very, very interested in coming back" since his sudden retirement last July. That part makes sense, considering a return to the Dolphins would reduce the $8.6 million Williams owes the team as part of the bonuses he received when he entered the NFL with New Orleans. But even if he were to come back, Williams reportedly still would face a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Then there is the matter of patching things up with teammates who were angry and felt betrayed by his abrupt walkout. And didn't the Dolphins sufficiently address their need for a big-play, workhorse running back when they made Ronnie Brown the second overall pick of the draft?

Can't say I disagree. Now enter the Ricky obsessors...

Too bad Mr Carucci doesnt realize that most of our supposed team leaders have already said theyd take him back. In addition, I think he fails to realize the sense of urgency that NFL coaches feel to win now. When you're 4-12; you do ANYTHING you can to get back respectability immediately. Losing, even without someone who walked out on the team, is awful for team and fan moral. And its not like RW's contract is a heavy cap hit. Its not liek we're talking about some back up here either. This is a pro bowl level RB.

Disagreeing with you doesn't make anyone an obsessor. The fact of the matter is, RW can help this team. FOr one, he is a very talented Running back. Secondly, Ronnie Brown never even reached 200 carries in a season in college. So that will make the transition to the NFL even tougher -where the players are faster, stronger, hit harder, etc. Ricky will help Ronnie by taking some of the burden of carrying the ball 325-350 times. (Not including the pass receptions) So it makes sense to have a back who can come in and be effective and explosive as Ronnie learns the nuances of the NFL. Williams may have character issues, but he is by no means the only player in the league who does. There is no question ROnnie is the future of this team, but to want to pass up an opportunity to have that much talent in the back field and put that type of burden on a defense is just dumb. You can call the ones of us who want Ricky back "OBSESSORS". But you must call us that because you can't see what the possibilites are with these two guys in the back field.

Ronnie Brown reminds me a lot of Fred Taylor. He's big and fast. Spurrier underused him at Florida so he was somewhat of a question mark. When healthy, IMO he's one of the top 3 RB's in the league. Phins D has never had an answer for him in the 2 times they have faced him when healthy.

Well, RW can help the team IF he can still play...that is the biggest issue he has facing him right now...Assuming all the if's from the league and contractural arenas are resolved, he still has to regain some of the muscle mass he has lost and get into playing shape. How long that process takes will determine if he can actually help us this year...think of it...assuming he started playing ball in high school, he has been being hit for about 12 years or so. Then he quits for a year. His body will take some time to really get back into football shape. He'll wear out quicker, he'll be more sore after workouts, practices, games than ever before. Then there is the injury factor. If he tries to move things along too quickly, he'll be much more susceptible to injury. Once he hits the weights again for conditioning, he'll probably double or triple his chances of getting muscle tears and sprained ligaments unless he is really careful. There is a LONG LONG road ahead for RW to be "back." Talk of his being the same runner of 2003 is very premature right now, even if everything goes well from the league and team aspects...there is still the physical conditioning...This won't be the same as a rehab from an injury...it'll take longer for him to really get back to where he was before...so having Brown was and still is a necessity...

Who cares what the team leaders want. The same team leaders that have won NOTHING on an NFL level ever!

I don't disagree either. I think Nick looks at him as an asset, and he is determining how valuable it is, and how to maximize that value. In the long term (beyond this season) I see him traded or gone some other way. I don't want him back, but I understand the exploration by Saban. Yes we have a lot of Ricky obsessors. I think that is because he was their pot supply.. :roflmao: Actually I liked Ricky, I just would rather see Brown, a fresh talent, get his carries. I don't want to go into next year not knowing whether Brown can carry the load.

I thought having 2 workhorse RB's would be an asset?? just because we drafted Ronnie, or because Ricky will be back means that we have to let one of them go??? if Carucci considers that a bad idea, then what's a good idea?

I disagree with both his "bad ideas." Ricky comming back helps him tremendously, and as long as his salary isnt high is one of those situations where the reward greatly outweighs the risk.

I see no problem wit Rice signing wit Denver. He wont be a huge factor, but he can teach the yound guys like Lelie while being some depth.

I don't see Ricky being an injury risk. He is now a certified yoga instructor. My guess is he'll recover more quickly than in prior years. Yes, he will take some time to adjust to the pounding but his body will respond more quickly. Even if he doesn't gain all of his playing weight back, at worst he'll be a third down change of pace type back. Worst case scenario he cuts Browns workload in half, best case by one third. Taking the time to learn the NFL game from a spectator's perspective will prove to be a long term asset as Brown progresses in his NFL career. I've said it before and I'll say it again; I was upset that Ricky quit when he quit, not that he quit. I say welcome back, teach the new kid what you know for two years then go your merry way into stretching and breathing bliss!

as much as i hate ricky, you guys are making way to big of a deal about the weight issue if he was to come back. its not like were talking about a rb who in his prime weighed in at 210 and lost a ton of weight to get down to 185...ricky has the frame to carry weight easily, and he has plenty of time to rebuild some lost muscle mass. keep in mind that even at 215 or 220, he is still not by any means a small change of pace rb...and yes i still hate him and hope he never sees the field again...
