Just saw this on PFT and thought I would post it here... sorry if already posted...

VICK INVITE A FAVOR TO BEAMER?
There's a rumor making the rounds in league circles that the decision of the Miami Dolphins to invite former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick to an upcoming rookie minicamp was the direct result of a call from Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer to Dolphins coach Nick Saban in which Beamer either called in or asked for a favor from Saban.
Why does Beamer care? Because whether or not Vick lands with a pro team is a direct reflection on Beamer and his program, and it surely would be used against the Hokies by other teams during current and future recruiting efforts.
For the Fins, bringing Vick in for a look-see really is a no-lose proposition. Saban owes one less favor to Beamer, or Beamer owes Saban one more. And if the Fins don't like what they see, they can cut Vick loose.
Or if Saban thinks he can get the kid to straighten himself out, Marcus still could develop into a solid NFL quarterback. Though we think Michael's younger brother is a flaming butthole, the kid can play quarterback. Unlike his big brother, Marcus stays in the pocket and makes his reads before pulling down the ball and heading for daylight. That quality in and of itself already puts Marcus in a better position than Michael to be a successful passer over the long haul.
Marcus simply needs to learn how to conduct himself on and off of the field. If Saban can get through to him, it's a win-win for everyone.

Gonna get ripped cause it's PFT...

It's possible. If you think about it, we've got Pepper, Lemon, Berlin in Europe, we signed Holland (according to Boomer we were scouting him for weeks and Garret really like him), and a pending trade/pick up with Harrington. Why invite Vick?

because he's better than all those except pep.

Berlin was just benched, I think it's pretty likely his NFL days are done. If that's the case, we might just send Vick over to Europe as his replacement.

You invite Vick to review all your options. If Marcus Vick truley proves to be better than most of those QB's, why not get him? It is a non-committment deal, so you go with all your options.

There was clearly the need to have another QB at mini-camp. Daunte's injured, Brock's in Europe (and I hear they canceled his return flight  ) and Joey's still a Lion. That leaves only Lemon and Holland for this weekends camp.......if you need to add a body, why not one with upside??

You think this guy would make the sacrifice to go play in Europe? I doubt it...

whether it's a favor or not doesn't really matter to me. this kid has tons of talent, he would be better than his brother if he actually played. Vick has alot of issues but Saban will take him on because of the upside he has. hope Vick works out

That's the only reason why I think he's here. He's got a cannon and can make all the throws. It'll be probably be Culpepper, Harrington, Lemon and Holland on the PS (the guy we actually scouted and have had an interest in for weeks).

From latest statements I've read about the guy, he almost seems like he's starting to 'get it' a little. He appologized to the guy he stepped on during the game (can't remember his name) at the Senior Bowl, I believe. He's showed remorse to his prior actions and is definitely seeing that teams will not put up with non-character guys anymore. I think not being drafted maybe opened his eyes a little and he's seeing that his opportunity may be slipping by, regardless of who his big brother is.
For Miami, it's definitely a win-win situation. If this guy can pull his head out and do what's right, he could be a big time player for us. I think it's a great move by Saban and he, with maybe a handfull of other coaches, is the one that could help turn this kids life around. I'm all for it.

If he wants to play, he won't have a choice.

If he wanted to play, he wouldn't have stomped some guys leg, drive around with bud and a gun, etc.

You gotta be hungry and I don't think he is based on his actions. Whether or not he thinks he's got a free ride because his big bro is Mike Vick or he just wants to be thuggin, I have no idea. I'd like to see him turn it around and provide some value for us but I'm very skeptical at this point.
