MIAMI -- Daunte Culpepper and the rest of the Miami Dolphins' starters may be long gone from Saturday's exhibition opener against Jacksonville before Marcus Vick even takes the field.

A fourth-string punt returner, fifth-string receiver and fifth-string quarterback, Vick is the ultimate utilityman. If asked, he would likely retrieve the tee following kickoffs.

Anything to earn a job.

While Culpepper will make his Dolphins debut _ the latest milestone in a remarkable recovery from reconstructive knee surgery _ Vick has been trying to rehabilitate his reputation and revive his career.

He was a star quarterback at Virginia Tech before being kicked off the team in January following his junior year, and the Dolphins signed him in May as an undrafted rookie and a long shot to make the squad.

nice to hear his attitude with the dolphins is in the right place. I think saban and co. will appreciate that . Hopefully he can keep it up and get his chance. maybe that earning something for the first time will keep him on the straight n narrow

Lets hope our boys don't accept an invite to Mcdonalds from him.

i like this...i really want to see him in a Randel El-type position where he is on the field and can throw the ball

5th string WR? thats not bad. Considering they have Russell behind him as well as Aromashadu.

Think there's a chance of Vick passing Brock on the depth chart?
I don't think that's much of an issue because if he does, he'd be 4th string -- which means not on the team. My feeling though is that he's a better QB than Brock, but again, that's not saying much IMO.

I feel like Marcus will make the practice squad this yr and the 53 man roster in 07.

I believe they mean more of a 5th string WR as in 5th string WR2, meaning there are 8 people ahead of him

Well, I don't think we'd list Vick as a QB anyway. His value, as far as I'm concerened is as a future Slash/Randle El type player, special teamer, and emergency QB. The rule for 3rd string QB's is that, if they enter the game at anytime before the 4th quarter, the two QB's ahead of him are ineligible to return to the game. So the reason I ask is because if we we're put into a situation where Daunte and Joey were both knocked out in the first few plays, we could put Vick in at QB while our medical staff determine's if they can go back in.

You see what I'm saying?
