Last year we carried 9 defensive linemen. Here's the list for this season...

1. David Bowens
2. Kevin Carter
3. John Denney
4. Vonnie Holliday
5. Matt Roth
6. Jason Taylor
7. Keith Traylor
8. Big Daddy
9. Vickerson or Evans or Zgonina

Does Zgonina get cut because of his age?
Can we trade him?
Who is more likely to survive the practice squad: Vickerson or Evans?
 
If anything at this point it's a toss as to who is going to be on the PS and who is going to be on the roster. We are weaker at the NT position so Fred Evans has alot of value in the situation. Jeff is a good D-linemen that can play all of the positions but is a little on the older side. Vickerson is an up and coming D-linemen that has showed that he can play. I had really high expectations for him coming into the TC but i really don't think he's lived up to the hype.
 
Evans has secured a roster spot... this is a mute point.

Evans will make the team. His roster spot is secure and not in question. Vickerson or Zgonina are the two that are tossed up. Evans is on the team.

Will Denney actually count against DL since he is our long snapper? He might be considered ST instead so we'd be able to keep the two young guys..

Yea, Denney will be considered the Long Snapper and a emergency DL option. With all the vets on this line, I finally think Jeff is not gonna make it. It would be to the Dolphins benefit to have the luxury of 2 young talents Dlinemen to get reps throughout the season. Man with Roth, Evans and Vickerson, and possibly the Wright brothers next year. . . this Dline has a bright future. A ton of talent.
 
Hey, I love Evans. He looks tremendous. But what about Vickerson? He had a great game against St. Louis.

If we only carry 9 offensive linemen, and keep 10 defensive linemen, then we could keep both Evans and Vickerson on the five three. That would inject some youth into our defensive line.

But don't forget about Rod Wright. He'll provide some much needed youth when he comes back from his injury next year. If we hold onto Zgonina, and put Evans or Vickerson on the practice squad, then we have all season to set up a trade for Zgonina.

I mean, how do you just cut Zgonina? The guy can still play. And he is proven during the regular season. Evans is not. That's a fact. Do you toss the guy who you know can get the job done for a guy who looked good in pre-season?

The question is: Would Evans and/or Vickerson survive the practice squad? I mean, other than the Fins, what other teams are interested or know about these guys?

Who was on our practice squad last year? Did we lose anybody off the PS last year?
 
there is no way evans hits the practice squad, too many teams need d-line help and at a cheap price too boot. i would like to keep 10 d-lineman if possible that way we could mix age with youth and everyone stays fresh throughout the year.

My intention is not to sound arrogant...

but the fact we are even discussing if Evans will make the roster is an indication that someone didn't watch the games or have access to seeing Evans this summer. Evans made an impact in the first game when his first tackle was behind the line of scrimmage. Saban has commented on Evans frequently. If you have been watching him play then you know he is set to make the team. Frankly most of the media speculation has been between Zgonina and Vickerson in regard to competition to make the roster. Evans is already there.

If you count John Denney, we actually carried ten. We had Tim McGill for a while, and then Josh Shaw.
 
Dude come on!!!!!!!!!! Have you not been paying attention? Fred Evans will make the 53 man roster 100% for sure. John Denney does not count in Saban's equation of 9DL kept on the 53man roster. Do your homework before posting. The battle is between Old but reliant Jeff overachiever lunch pale Zgonina vs. Kevin don't call me turd I have tons of potential Vickerson. My gut says Saban keeps Vickerson and trades Zgonina. Even though Vickerson has PS egibility no way does he clear waivers.
 
We keep Evans and Vickerson, Denney is the LS and doesn't count amongst the 9 DL. Zgonina is trade bait at best, which is a shame because he does play and work his heart out, but youth movement takes precedence.
