The Vikings need plenty of help in the secondary, and one candidate has emerged.

A source said Wednesday the Vikings are expected to take a strong look in free agency at Miami Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll when he becomes a free agent Tuesday.

Miami's linebackers coach the past two seasons, George Edwards, is now Minnesota's defensive coordinator. When Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was Cincinnati defensive coordinator, Carroll played against the Bengals in each of the past two seasons.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings are expected to take a “strong look” at cornerback Nolan Carroll in free agency. Carroll’s contract with the Dolphins is expiring and Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the expectation is that he’ll be hitting the open market despite the Dolphins’ interest in bringing him back.

That’s code for the Dolphins’ offer not being high enough for Carroll to forsake a shot to see what the market will offer. He’s started 22 games in the last two seasons and is presumably looking for a salary that befits a starting role in the future.

Carroll played well for us this past season, but I wouldn't say his play warranted any kind of a big contract. I'd bring him back for 3 years and $9 million at the most. I do think other teams will overpay for him.

Let's try to keep him. Big improver from last season and he understands what Coyle is trying to do.
Very underrated player.

if they make him a starting corner then I wish him luck, ive always had a lot of time for Carroll, hope we keep him

Vikings need to look more towards players like Talib, S.Sheilds etc. Do they realize the caliber of WR in that Division? Marshall, Jeffries, Megatron, Nelson.

N.Carrol would get used and abuse against any of those players.

Depending on the deal, I wouldn't match. I'd welcome keeping Carroll but at the same time, gotta look at the numbers.

I still think that's overpaying a nickel back at best. He is not a #2 and if he's lined up vs the best WR then whomever decided to do that should be fired immediately.

He did ok against #2/#3 WR's.

Twice a year against Megatron, Marshall/Jeffrey, Jordy Nelson?

I don't know about all that.

Look at Vikings roster, Carrol would likely be #1 CB unless they sign another.

Don't ya just love today's day and age of "sport's writers?"

A source (Damn, not even from where LOL) said Wednesday the Vikings are expected (are expected huh? by who? "The Source? LOL") to take a strong look (How the hell to teams take a weak or mediocre look at players? LOL) in free agency at Miami Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll when he becomes a free agent Tuesday.

My comments are within the post, and give my opinion of too may people having access to write anything sports related. It's become comical.

He made a number of big time plays, but...

he got burned enough that I'm not going to miss that,

'I just got toasted again' expression on his face...

I've always really disliked him, but he stepped up his game this past year. Would be a shame to let him walk when he FINALLY got it together, considering we can never develop talent. It would be nice to have him back but I do want to see more PT for Davis and Taylor and having Patterson back wouldnt be bad if he came cheap.

He's a back upthat was starting due to injuries. I'd take him back as a bck up and pay him as a back up. Wish hm well tho cause he's a good guy.

Ozzy rules!!

He did play well but, have to believe that Taylor will be better. With many VG CB's in FA, it's a joke that Minny is looking at him right now, even in rumors from writers who say nothing. JMO

Maybe they should snake Shields from Grenn Bay or give Verner a look. Gotta agree with the others....I don't think Carroll will fair well against those caliber WR's.
