The Saints reportedly faxed a contract proposal to LB Jonathan Vilma directly after the free agent period began.
All along Vilma has been New Orleans' priority re-signing and they don't want to lose him to the Buccaneers. Vilma will do better than Channing Crowder did. The 26-year-old led the Saints with 130 tackles last season.

WHY MUST THEY MENTION CROWDER LIKE THAT

I guess they could be saying Crowder came at a slight discount (Vilma won't) because after all his bitchin CC (he was paid quite low) he finally conceded and decided he likes the team afterall..

For all the hype you just never hear anything overly good about Vilma, and now he's bouncing to yet another team. That in itself raises questions to me.

Yeah, you never hear anything good about Vilma!:rolleyes2: I was pissed when the Jets traded him, but he is a tackling machine in the 4-3. Do you even watch football?

He was traded from the Jets, because he didn't fit the 3-4....he was a fantastic player in the 4-3. The only reason that the Saints didn't try everything in their power to resign him before FA was because it would have cost them a 1st round pick (a stipulation in a trade with the Jets that if they resign him before FA the 3rd rounder they gave up for him would escalate to a 2nd rounder, since they arleady traded this year's 2nd round pick to the Gints fro Shockey, one of those teams would get a the 2nd, and 1 their 1st , I believe the Giants would have gotten the first, but I;m not 100% on that).

So it is not that these teams don't want Vilma because of talent....he was traded once because of the defense they run, and not resigned by the Saints (yet) because of a trade stipulation.

My bad, I didn't realize that he was a such tackling machine and a good fit for the 3-4. Coming out of school you would have thought he'd be the next Ray(the knife) Lewis. He certainly hasn't reached that level, and now a 3rd team in what 4 years. If he's that good, why not a 1st rounder?

No first rounder due to the fact that he had an injury to his knee, and teams were reluctant, i will take the 3rd though.:woot:
