Vonnie's hit on Cassel....justified call or WEAK call

I was unable to watch the game but i listened and Vonnie got called for driving Cassel into the ground. The announcers said it was sort of a weak call to protect the QB. Did anybody see it from what i heard Joey hit Cassel harder than Vonnie did.

I love the intensity and hard hitting nasty defense a true BP inspired defense Langford and Merling are getting better each game Starks is playing well Vonnie is playing hard I love it.

PS
Check out the sig.....this game was probably the best game for creating new sigs alot of great pictures from this one WOOHOO

Nice sig, I thought the call was total BS. Vonnie gave him a nice shot and fell straight to the ground with him, Cassel still had the ball in his hands when he got hit. That's what caused the ball to flop up in the air like a fish.

I mean it looked hard in the highlights.....but everything is hard in the NFL, I know the Qb's are important and need some protection but if you don't let the linemen do their jobs then might as well put flags on the Qb's. I guess it doesn't matter in the scheme of things but i just dont like when the refs make it seem like the Qb's are made of glass

I hope to exchange this picture and story in two weeks when our D hits rivers over and over and over

Weak. He had his head down, how was he supposed to know if the QB still had the ball or not. But I figured it was the refs payback for blowing the whistle on Cassel's "in the grasp" call earlier.

It was a marginal call for sure, but I can understand why they called it. Especially after the in the grass call. It could've gone either way. With the way it appeared Vonnie drove with his head and the speed of the game, I can see how they made that call.

weak. it was a good clean textbook hit. id say that even if it was danny getting hammered in that case. the in the grasp call against them was weak as well imo though

good point i saw that too. Iffy just like Vonnie's call since it didnt really matter i guess it was a good time to "make up" for the previous call

ABSOLUTELY justified!!!

and no homerism in my answer.

he was on a full run busting through the line and
he had a shot at a sure sack.

he had absolutely no time to pull up or think about
about anything. it was a legit sack and vonnie is
just a much bigger guy. when he hits a tiny qb, it
is going to look bad! its gonne be ugly!

but that was a BAD call by the refs.

and this seems to be a theme this year already,
horrible calls by refs around the leauge.

It was a bad call plain and simple.

I watched the Steelers Browns game last week and there was some pretty blatant body slamming going on in that game and none of it was ever called.

The Browns NT body slammed a RB and the QB along with another guy on different plays. He also blatantly nailed Ben on the shoulder after a play and they didn't call any of it. He is a monster too, he looks like he's close to 380 pounds or something. I've seen some horrible calls by the refs this past weekend. It's like the play in Denver started an epidemic or something. :shakeno:

Bad call, possibly "make up" call for the in the grasp call. Vonnie had his head up, to the side as he hit and wrapped up Cassel and his momentum drove them back and to the ground. The video could be used to teach perfect tackling technique to pop warner kids!

There was nothing controversial about the "in the grasp call".
The refs blew the play dead and the defense let up, thus allowing Cassel to "escape".
The Fins have been called for personal fouls several times this season and I'm sure they didn't want to risk another one when the Pats were in the red zone.
The call was a non-issue as far as I'm concerned

:rant:This has been a theme in this league for the last decade. It all stems from the top. Mike Perrira is the worst ref of them all and he is head of officials. These new rules are a joke. The defense can bury everyone else on the field, but are supposed to change the way they play when it comes to the QB. Marino's records would have never been broken if the rule changes had not been implemented. I'm all for protecting the QB from unnecessary abuse, but it is absolutely ridiculous what is happening.

If a QB gets rid of the ball and the defender tries to bat the ball down and inadvertently touches the guys helmet as he brings his hands down, the refs call a penalty. I have seen this more than once and it is the biggest bunch of BS! Or a guy goes for a sack and he is blocked as he is going in and falls and hits the QB in the knees, it is called a penalty. Is this football or twinkle toes.

Sorry for the rant, but this infuriates me!

it was weak imo...clean hit, i was screaming at the tv
