The Palm Beach Post indicates that first-round pick Vontae Davis is no longer in the mix to start at right corner for the Dolphins.

The spot is wide open and it appears Davis has fallen behind Eric Green and fellow rookie Sean Smith, who reportedly have the "inside track" on the job.

Just cause he has fallen behind does not mean he sucks. The kid has shown flashes in camp and I think once he gets over making rookie mistakes he will be a force in this league.

The article is a little misleading....he couldn't have fallen behind Green because he was never ahead of him to begin with. Green is slowly making his way down the depth chart. Way to early to tell. I think his aggressive nature playing the position may be making his development slower.

Smith is just a freak....What are the chances of having 2 rrokie Db's make a huge impact this early anyway. Doesn't concern me in the least...

eH. CB is, realistically, the hardest position to play on the entire field outside of QB. this doesn't necessarily surprise me.

The way I see it he is a rookie and aside from a few rookie mistakes he has looked solid in camp. You really dont hear much from besides a rookie mistake here and there. A positive I have seen is he has been coming up with INTs lately.

I agree.

But this is interesting......
Because Sparano views the defensive backs as the most difficult position to evaluate, from time to time he enters a practice having instructed the offense to test a particular defensive backs.
Wondering how many hits he's called for?
"I would say several," Sparano said without naming names.

The thing is, one of them is going to start beside Will Allen. One. Honestly, with the matchups we have in the AFC East, I am glad that Smith is stepping up. I wouldn't worry about Vontae, he has been making plays in camp and, like the right guard competition, it will only make us a better team.

i disagree Eric Green has been getting killed ever day in practice from what i have read and vontae well i havent heard much about him and i also havnt heard much from and of the cb

We'll see how he plays in real games. I think Green will be alright - especially as a 3rd or 4th CB. Smith is seeming more and more like the real deal, and I can't wait to see him play. This, though, is all preliminary. I wasn't expecting either to start until week 8 or 9. Smith has just been ahead of schedule. Davis is doing fine.

agreed

whether or not he pans out, he is gonna get burned like every other rookie CB in the history of the league

Antonio Rogers cromartie fared pretty well last year, actually, Dunta robinson and Chris Gamble were shut down corners their rookie years too.

theres 3 out of how many CB's that get drafted every year...

IMO.....he will play regardless if he is the starter or not. Lets wait until we see him in competition in preseason games before folks start writing him off as having no chance at starting. Lets see what he looks like, with our own eyes, by the end of Preseason.

We need him to be good and we need to know this early......we have some big time WR coming to town early.......
