Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis pulled down an interception in 2011 (August 15, 2012)
By Omar Kelly Sun Sentinel 4:17 p.m. EDT, August 15, 2012

Every NFL player faces adversity at some point in their career.
Last year Vontae Davis dipped his toe in troublesome water when he was suspended a game for violating a team rule, allegedly showing up to practice hungover.
This year Davis, a 2009 first-round pick who has started 36 games, finds himself on the outside looking in at the starting unit.
Richard Marshall, a free agent the Dolphins signed to a three-year, $16 million deal, has unseated Davis as the starting boundary cornerback paired with Sean Smith.
Davis plays with the first team in the nickel package, but it is clear his role on the team has been reduced, especially after episode one of HBO's Hard Knocks reality series details some maturity issues the coaching staff has with the former Illinois standout.
“You’ve got to come in and work,” Davis told the Sun-Sentinel. “It’s like training your mind. Repetition over and over again for your mind and body to get back into football shape.”
When asked if being embarrassed on Hard Knocks served as a wake-up call, Davis dismissed the program's storyline.
“That don’t matter to me. It’s a challenge every day in the NFL. You just got to do what you need to do, take care of your job to the best of your ability," Davis said. "Whether I’m the fourth or fifth (cornerback), it doesn’t matter to me. I’m still pushing myself.

I think he could beat Smith for sure. Switch sides and start Marshall and Davis. Smith is awful!

I actually thought about this..seriously! Awful more like on the deep ball and tackling ofcourse

last year vontae said he saw reggie bush out on the field working his arse off after the team had gone in.

he said , "i looked at him and shook my head and just walked into the locker room"..............

right there it was apperant where vontaes head is at. reggie decided to set a jerry rice like tone and work harder and longer than expected [and it payed dividends in his game] and sell out his body to get to the next level. some got the message and embraced it and joined him in his extra work outs.

not vontae. what he should have done when seeing reggies effort was to go join him, not shrug him off as some sort of nut and head for the shower and home to his x-box.

all of this is starting to show up BIG TIME in vontaes game. i dont think these coaches are fooling. "if i am 3rd or 4th or 5th string, it doesnt matter, i am still pushing myself"? WTF IS THAT?

he is paying 2nd string and some nickle because he IS NOT pushing himself. he is content with mediocrity and has no pride. ANY real pro, any player with real pride and accountability would NOT be happy about not starting, expecially being DEMOTED TWICE!!!

the mistake i see so far in this coaching staff [probably coin] is not seeing whats in front of their faces and on team films, davis is NOT up to speed going into year 3 and smith should have been replaced. i know coach coin has done some good things with under acheiving db's in the past, but, you have to want it, you have to listen to the coaches and DO your part to improve. vontae is still a high school boy who's dedication is hanging with his homies and playing x-box and madden untill the wee hours of the morning. lifting 40's and glasses of purple drank instead of bar bells. chasing chicks instead of wr's.

staying late at the club instead of late after practice working on his game.

smith isnt physical or talented enough for the nfl. PERIOD! i have never seen a pro player so afraid of contact in my life.

it appears that rashad jones is the type of player that kevin coin can get to and help elevate his game. thats great! but, the rest of our secondary, beside marshall is a steaming pile of poo and will cost us a winning record this year.

hopefully at years end we will make it a priority to get real talent in here for our secondary and cut lose the dead weight we have back there now.

We can always trade him right? I do not know the specifics in regards to his contract or whatever.
