Anyone who votes no should really try to understand 1) the dynamics of the contact extension 2) the dynamics of QB within the NFL and 3) the ability to mitigate 1 & 2 without long term detriment to the team.
Frankly, I'm thrilled at the prospect of being able to watch what I feel will be the continued ascension of RT17 as our QB. He's still climbing the ranks, and I believe this is the year we will break through into relevance again.
He has progressed every year and has been our best QB in years. A lot of people don't want to extend a QB if he isn't the next Dan Marino, but I think Tannehill can be a very good QB in this league. It is not his fault the team has gone 8-8 the past two years; without him, they probably would have only won 4-6 games.
I think one of the guys in the Barry Jackson article last night nailed it when he said:
“Doesn’t matter what you think of Tannehill’s on-field value or how Dolphins management valued him. Fact is the quarterback demand far exceeds supply and just before you say I wouldn’t have paid him, I will say good luck finding and being able to acquire and develop a better one.”
Tannehill has improved every season since being drafted, so the question is...
Sign him to an extension now, or wait until Luck and Wilson get extensions, and risk paying much more than Tanny got yesterday? Or maybe even lose him to free agency. Hmmm, is this really a discussion?
I'm still not totally convinced but he is progressing and damn for the amount of time he's been playing QB I think is doing very well.
I'm so blown away with the moves and intelligence of this FO, that if they think it's best I'm not going to disagree.. Next year might have meant even a bigger contract...But considering whats available see little problem with the deal, locking him in and making one more happy camper....
YES! We locked up the best qb we have had in a long time, and have an out of he doesn't progress like we hope.
we didn't have to break the bank on a top 12 qb that has not demonstrated the ability to take over a game and win it when it is in the balance like the elite ones do.
Its a good deal for the team, it lets RT know the team is behind him and tells him to go out and win.
Good deal
I'm not sold yet, $100 million for being average in this league, I guess that's the going rate, considering the likes of Dalton and Kapernick are around that . Understand the logic in it though, as it ties down a "potential" franchise QB, but he's still very much "potential" for me. Voted waiting a year but really that was financially not a smart option, just went for the middle ground.
I don't see how anybody can say no. And so far we only have a few maybes. I don't even get the maybe crowd. We wait a year and he blows up then we pay him a crapload more
