Wannstedt contacted by Pitt: Former Miami coach Dave Wannstedt officially was contacted by Pittsburgh AD Jeff Long on Tuesday and Wannstedt is interested in coaching his alma mater, sources said. Walt Harris left Pittsburgh for Stanford on Sunday.

Harris will coach Pittsburgh against Utah in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1. Wannstedt was raised in Pittsburgh, where he attended Baldwin High School. He captained the University of Pittsburgh as an offensive tackle, blocking for Tony Dorsett.

Wannstedt also coached on Pittsburgh's staff from 1975-78.

Wanny would make a good college coach I beleieve. I am going to get killed for saying it, LOL! But he is that father figure guy that suits college, like Carroll.
