I am not defending the job Wannstedt did because I never wanted him to be the coach of the Dolphins. Yet stating he ran the team JJ built into the ground is a bit of hyperbole. Johnson left after the Dolphins had been annihilated by the Jacksonville Jaguars 62-7 in what also ended up being Dan Marino’s last NFL game.

So Wannstedt was left with an offense without Marino and a starting QB who had been a backup for Jacksonville the previous year. Johnson had done a very good job of building a quality defense but the offense he left Wannstedt was below average at best. It was not only Wannstedt that was never able to
find a quality QB to replace Marino but it has been an issue for every HC since Marino retired. Hopefully Tua will eventually be the long term answer at the QB position Dolphin fans have been hoping for since the day Marino retired.

He is right. Fin fans are pretty terrible.
He actually didn’t say anything negative in regards to Miami fans. He just didn’t include us in the fans that he thinks are great fans and therefore some posters seem to infer this means he thinks Miami fans are not as great a fan base as the fans of the teams he mentioned.

I happen to know several diehard fans who love the Dolphins but the reality is the fan base in South Florida isn’t nearly as enthusiastic about the Dolphins as fans of most NFL teams are about their home team. Two decades of mediocrity and all the transplanted fans of other NFL teams living in South Florida certainly have had a huge impact on Dolphin support in South Florida.

I'll never forgive him for wasting that ridiculous roster on D... And Ricky.
Drafting Jamar Fletcher no 1 when we had Madison and Surtain. Taking Eddie Moore w our 1st pick in that years draft. He inherited and excellent team and slowly ruined it.

The team Wanny inherited wasn’t excellent. It hadn’t won a division since 1994, and hadn’t won in the divisional round since 1992. The early 2000 Dolphins have an unjustified reputation for excellence. They only look better because the franchise has gotten far worse since then.

Sunday afternoon NATIONAL fox football pregame show had wanny. He said Buffalo gets no respect as a NY team compared to the jets and Giants, yet they are great with a terrific fan base. He then goes on about how he has coached in great fan bases such as Dallas, Chicago, and Pittsburg , those are towns that reminds him of great fans like Buffalo .

so he left us out, the team with his longest pro tenure as head coach . Not saying I’m shocked we got the beaches etc, but at that moment he decided to leave us out of his example lol

When half the attendees are for the opposing team, he may have a point?

Miami home field advantage has always been the heat.

That moron failed the fan base for 5 years so he can go pound sand.

Fair enough. It was a good roster though. Good enough that it had made the playoffs 3 years in a row prior to the changeover and had a lot of good players. The base of good players started to decay as poor drafting didn’t enhance the roster.

They both did. Wanny passed on him in the draft for jamar fletcher, a corner who was an absolute bust . All the while we ALREADY HAD MADISON and SERTAIN.
Yeah this was a huge head-scratcher at the time even. It was as odd as taking Tedd Ginn and his whole family.
