Wanny's gameplan?

I don't think it's really a matter of what anybody wants. Rather, the simple fact that you can only heave the ball downfield after you have forced the other team to respect something else -- a running game or a dink/dunk short passing game. Something has to setup the long ball, or you are just asking to get eaten alive.

Unless you have an extraordinarily skilled QB, the only options for slowing down an all out pass rush are things like draw plays, screen plays, and other nasty little dink and dunk stuff to make an all out blitz pay the price.

Wait a minute Wanny has a gameplan?!?!? My high school football team looked more organized that the Phins did last night. Rick needs to can half the coaching staff!!! Why were we running the ball on 1st or 2nd and 15?!? Even in a dink and dunk type of offense, three 5 yard gains gets it done plus it opens up defenders for double moves on deep routes.

Well for us it looks like it's going to be a long season, but whatever. I've been a Dolphins fan for 34 years. Got to take the bad with the good.

Pats' fan here, but I don't come with animosity. I feel for you guys. Last night's game was painful to watch.

I watched Wanny's press conference this afternoon and he said something that absolutely floored me. He said that they called more long, downfield pass plays yesterday than any game since he had been with the Dolphins.

Now, I don't know much about game planning, but it seems to me that, if I'm the Dolphins head coach, I figure that I've got to win with defense and do everything I can to make the game easy for my unproven running back, young O-line, and brand new quarterback. The last thing I want to do is make him stand back there and wait for receivers to come open downfield.

Remember Brady's first year? Belichick and Weis had him throwing 3 yard passes all year. They almost NEVER went downfield. It wasn't because they don't like the downfield passing game, but they knew that Brady would get killed. Three years later, they are throwing downfield all the time. But, they waited while their young QB learned how to read NFL defenses and they are careful to try to protect him...either because they've got the pass rush on its heels first or because they've got tight ends and RBs chipping away at the pass rushers.

IMO, Wanny threw Feely to the dogs in last night's game.
I find it very hard to believe that Wanny know what a gameplan is.
