Want to keep Grant now.

Look, I'm one of the biggest Jakeem Grant fans on this board ... kid's stop-start quickness is one of the very best in the league, and his speed is elite as well. But, there are limited roster spaces. We're definitely keeping Waddle, Fuller, Holland ... and I just don't see how we let Lyn Bowden, Jr. go. That means the roster has no room (and the salary cap has no space) for Jakeem Grant or Albert Wilson. Now, if Fuller or Waddle get injured, things change, so we'll probably make one of both of those guys late cuts, but they're going to be cut.

If you're like me and want to see Jakeem put it all together, honestly, it's going to be after he gets cut and when he gets picked up. Hopefully that team will be us, but more likely it will be another team.

He can't catch, and we have other candidates to do returns. I'd rather move on.

Of course the overall required skillset has changed. That's what "evolved" means. One trait that is no longer required is replaced by one more benificial to an entitie's new environment.

When I allude to "role", it is in the context of scheme and design, not player skill specific.

I think we basically agree, other than semantics.

Honestly you're right it really is semantics. I guess my main point was that its more that the TE position has evolved to include FB responsibilities and not vice versa so much, but at the end of the day its the same result.

They will likely keep 6 WR’s on the roster. Wilson is better than Williams and Bowden and behind only Fuller, Waddle and Parker. Cutting Wilson would be ridiculous in my opinion. If they can get at least a third round pick for him, perhaps that would make sense but simply cutting him because of his contract makes no sense to me.

With the injury history of Parker, Fuller and Williams, keeping Wilson seems to be the smartest decision at the WR position.

If he could only catch the ball he would play in this league for a long time. As it is, a receiver who can't catch is a receiver that you can't rely on. He'll only last in the NFL as long as someone wants to invest a roster spot on a PR specialist, which won't be that long, and even less if he can't field the ball reliably.

Agreed 100% on your accessment. Wilson when healthy is right behind Fuller, Parker and Waddle. Ahead of Williams.
Still don't get the infatuation for Williams here. Not fast, can't get open, drop, and gets hurt. What else are there?

I think they hope Williams will stay injury free and they can use him as a 5th or 6th WR. He is cheap and that is the main reason I think he is even still on the roster. Like you, I have never been a big believer in Williams and while I hope he has success if he remains on the roster, it won’t surprise me if they keep one of the other WR’s on the roster if he isn’t fully healthy during training camp and he ends up being released.

His cap hit is $4.6 million. He has NEVER been an all pro returner and he is a below average WR. The Dolphins can save $3 against the cap by cutting him. They should see if they can trade him for a 7th round pick but if they can’t, I just don’t see him making the final 53 next season.

He was all pro last year.

cut his a55. more of a chance to fumble than take it to the house. I am sure, in fact positive, that there is someone on the team that could do the job.

10 fumbles in 5 years... 5 return Tds... so yes.

I don't want to see Waddle return one kick. If he is put out there to do that, the STC should be immediately whacked in the head with a mallet. Re: Grant? Meh. He sucks at catching. Just keep that in mind. Needs to be a RB and give up on his WR stuff.

Would think that Albert Wilson is Waddles backup/reliever in the slot...Parker, Fuller and Williams all outside guys so Grant is more than likely gone.
Wilson ability to separate quickly play's in his favor
Grant post June 1cap hit 600k saving 4 mil
Wilson's post June 1 cap hit 2.3 mil saving 2.8
Needless to say Wilson is a far superior player to Grant

IMHO, they're both gone. Wilson was needed last season and after several lengthy injury spells in Miami Wilson decided not to play last season. Nothing gets GM's fired faster than missing on a QB, but after that the next quickest thing is when your big money FA's or high draft picks are unavailable for large stretches of time. Injuries were bad enough, but when Wilson decided voluntarily (albeit with good reason) to forego the 2020 season the GM realized that he lacked the most important ability ... availability.

Call it what you will, but I'll be shocked if Wilson is in our plans, because a GM will be judged by production on the field, and guys who are not on the field produce ZERO and still count against the cap. To ensure we replaced him we brought in his replacement in FA, Will Fuller with supreme speed ... and learning his lesson Grier only gave him a 1 year prove-it deal. To compound that decision, we also drafted a direct replacement with the same skillset in Jalen Waddle ... can't really get much more clear about who you're replacing than that one. And remember, we traded for Lyn Bowden Jr. last year to replace him in 2020, and Bowden gives you that same flex RB/SWR role where Wilson really excels.

It's the same issue I have with Jedeveon Clowney ... absolutely awesome prospect ... but low production. I'm simply not paying for that. My experience is that most GM's simply cut bait with those guys, and if they make a come back, it's almost always with a new team.

While Wilson may be the more productive between he and Grant, Grant's availability and willingness to do what the franchise wants him to do may well be the deciding factors. I suspect both get cut, and if we bring one back, it'll be Grant. Just my $0.02 on that roster issue.
