[h=3]What to look for from the Miami Dolphins offense and defense in third preseason game (both affect the season opener)[/h]
Why?

Falcons coach Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 and 2014. The success his Seattle defenses had those years catapulted him to his current position. And in Atlanta Quinn runs a mirror image of what the Seahawks still run. Furthermore, the coaching connections that were forged during Quinn's time in Seattle are still strong.

So the Dolphins don't want to put anything on tape that the Seahawks might see works against a scheme of defense they run. That would allow them to work on such a play over the next couple of weeks. Secondly, the Dolphins don't want to do anything on offense that might lead Quinn to suggest to his friends in Seattle any strategy for stopping the Dolphins.

So don't get upset if you don't see exotic plays and we lose because of caution..so if the O don't look as good don't panic.

A loss on Thursday will cause a major meltdown on this board...it will be more painful to come to this board in the days leading up to the season opener than it already is

As if Seattle wasn't going to study every play we run in preseason already. There is heightened scrutiny this game because of the Quinn Connection. That's laughable.

Every team runs a vanilla offense in preseason.

Gase has probably seen film of the Seahawks defense over and over and over and over after his time in Denver. I'm sure that deep down , he's dying to prove to himself that he can carve up their scheme . I got faith that he can put us In a position to possible steal a game up in Seattle . As we all know , anything can happen week one .

I don't care about wins and losses in the preseason. I wanna see effort and execution in the preseason

Which is hilarious because once again preseason doesn't mean anything other than bubble guys trying to make the team and some individual performances. We destroyed the Falcons first team offense last year in the 3rd week and that meant absolutely nothing as our defense went on to be horrible. People need to stop putting weight on preseason games.

Except there has been film on Gase's offense for years

Not with Dolphin personnel...I just wanted everyone not to go crazy over the play calling in this particular game and for those who say Seattle knows Gase, his plotting from the SB will be shown first in this game, since this is the first time he's had to address that game. So the op piece makes sense in that he doesn't want to show how he plans to atone for that SB defeat.

I think we always have this hope that our coach is somehow the smartest guy in the league. Like he's going to be able to bust out some secret weapon offense that nobody saw coming, outsmarting everyone, and that everything negative we're seeing with our own eyes is merely subterfuge, smokescreen, and mind games being orchestrated by our wiley coaching staff.

It never happens.

We will probably look like ****e tomorrow, and many of us will hang on to the hope that it's all part of the masterplan, like we always do, until we realize that it's not.

What was negative about the O last game?

We haven't gone against a D that resembles theirs, wouldn't you scrutinized that game more if your were Seattle. By the same token, it's great for us to get to see the same D Seattle is running straight from the author's play book...even though he has to keep it somewhat vanilla also for his first regular season game. It'll be nice to see how our personnnel reacts to this D since it killed one of the best scoring O's in the SB at the time Gase was in Denver.

Philbin's team beat Seattle... but that was early in Philbin's stint as Miami HC when he still had a lot of Sparano's physical players. As for the present, Philbin had 4 years to build the team in his "image", and this is the team that Gase inherited. So, vanilla offense or not, there is no way that a team using the majority of Philbin's o-linemen and running a short pass based offense (similar to what Philbin/Lazor ran) can win against a team with a tough physical defense. Philbin's o-linemen and style of offense were ineffective against those types of teams because they are weak, weak, weak! In a way, Gase is taking over where Philbin/Lazor left off; IMO the only difference will be that he'll add a few more downfield passes (when Tannehill has time, that is). Gase will be handicapped by Philbin's o-line because they can't protect the QB or run block. I expect Atlanta to dominate Miami while the starters are in there.

I was more just commenting on the psychology of "not showing our hand," and that while it's true everyone's vanilla in the PS, they're not hiding anything particularly revolutionary either. Except possibly Belicheat, who seems to come up with completely new and radical ways of hiding his team's weaknesses.

But since you asked:
- The O-line to me doesn't look like one capable of delivering a competent running game. We will again not be able to run the ball when teams know we are running.
- Aside from Pead, no back has looked decent.
- The #1 tight end seems to have lost his will to live. Or at least, play football in any meaningful capacity.
- While Stills is ascending, DVP doesn't quite look the part yet, possibly due to injury, possibly due to other reasons. It also feels like the offense will continue to run largely through Landry whether by design or by Tannehill's choice.

Tannehill gave reasons for hope last game, but there were also a lot of letdowns (for me).
